newbie

Hi all passed my c begining of june with 5 minors and still looking for work :frowning: i understand i need exp but how do you get it when even agencies dont contact you . knock on doors?

really want some exp as ive prov booked my c+e for sept and it would be nice to be atleast driving a truck before that

took vol redundency from my old job (factory work) as i could see where it was going (mostly to turkey) and im funding my own licenses so would have thought people would take you serious , but i guess i thought wrong .

some one said ask the people that know so googled trucking forums and found this one had a quick look round and registered .

so any help would be good and appriciated , based in the south west bath area

cheers

just keep plodding on with the agencies, register with as many as you can and keep on ringing them, everyday if you have to, pestering them to see if there is any work. if they offer you anything, even van or 7.5t work take it, it will show you are willing to work, so they can see how you work and drive.

just keep knocking on doors and looking in the local rag and cold calling companies, buy a new pair of trainers and wear them out doing the rounds of firms in your area with a wedge of CV’s in your hands so if they havent got any work they can keep you on file.

good luck mate, it takes a bit of time but you will get some soon.

 Hi Rae, WELCOME. :grimacing:

I can’t add anything to Giblsa’s comments, IMHO that’s good advice mate.

Good luck to you.

storm, you should be able to find something around preston/blackpool way.

try to pick a firm that runs everything from vans to artics. that way when you do pass your class 2 you can ask them if you can move up on to them and maybe get your class 1 out of them. you never know.

good luck looking for the jobs fella’s and let us all know how you get on

good luck storm

well i got the job  start monday morning ,really short interview as there still busy moving into new premises and are still busy setting it up .
going to collecting clinical waste , so there going to put me through my adr .

thing is it was another agency miles away who put me in touch and im not even on there books  so i guess some agencies arnt that bad

well done rae

good on you

Welcome to Trucknet Raae
Congrats on passing the test - good score only four minors - and also congrats on getting the job.
Let us know how it goes.

Have you tried LANGDONS?Think they are based out of bridgewater thought someone said before they take on newbies…

Congratulations Rae, hope everything works out fine and dandy for you :slight_smile:

Thats what im looking for, theres a place called sharrocks in preston, deals with fresh fruit and veg but they have large refridgerated vans and i thought there was a limit to what size i could drive at the minute? Or do i have that wrong aswell?

first week done and all i can say is things can only get better ,
went out with a guy to show me the route id be covering ,and everything seemed ok , just a point of getting to know how big the truck is etc .(30ft 7.5t)

yesterday i had to do it on my own as the guy was on hol . started off ok checks done etc reported brad pad low fault and was told to take it for service at the end of run and pick up replacement truck .

got to first pick up and whilst reversing out of ridicilously small area trying to avoid cars posts walls as well as people i hit the roof of a building with the side of the box  , down comes a section of guttering with a roof tile  , private hospitals are not truck friendly

you know the days gonna get worse when it starts that bad ,anyway guy comes out takes pics etc , my only defence was being my first day etc nervs . he was ok saying he’d contact company etc ,so i carried on with round .next5 went great , but didnt realise i had done round backwards and my sat nav told me the way to get back but was way off were i thought id be
, so i try to get back to were i should be , but get hopelessly lost .
anyway manage to get back to tip my load at 9pm ish then go looking for truck rental place ,but no luck there ,so by now im well happy and just want to get home and have a stiff drink and reflect on a ■■■■■■■ first day .

got back to depot all locked up so post paper work etc through the door with a note saying what had happened etc plus a foot note saying if not needed next week id fully understand .

so in conclusion , next time ill be getting a phone were the battery lasts :imp:
i’ll be getting a atlas for back up ,and ill be taking the office number with .somethings i found out the hard way .
totally un prepared for that type of day :unamused:

auto censor dodge removed…Denis F

dont worry about it too much.

everyone has a first day and yours was crap probably like about 50% of the people on here. just smile andf it will all seem better (if you cant smile 10 pints of stella make it better!)

i bet they will have you back as at least you left a note. i know a lot of people that wouldnt have done that, they probably would have walked off leaving the wagon after the gutter thing.

everyday is a school day mate.

keep smiling

Hi Rae, If you get stuck, or you’re unsure then please ask. :grimacing:

BTW, you can carry up to 333Kgs of that stuff without an ADR licence.
