Newbie. theory passed. CLASS 2 PASSED

hi guys i’m john. passed my theory with flying colours, i have booked my practical, back to back course class 2 and 1 with elgv enterprise in manchester, looking forward to it
some very helpful tips and excellent advice on here, will be doing as much reading as i can and trying to soak it all up as best as i can. i’ve been around trucks all my life, work for my family business in the scrap metal trade. i’m 26. wish i had of done my hgv a few years ago but never got around to it, so here i am

Welcome John.
I did my lessons with Enterprise. Think the gaffers name is Rob. Good bunch of folks but I found tests out of Bredbury to be very hard. After a coupe of fails,i checked out the pass rate there, and its in the lowest 3 in the country!! Leicester was one and I forget which the other one was. I then switched to Red Rose in Kearsley and flew through C. Now ive passed CE there first time and am loving driving my 44 tonne beast.
Good luck with it chief.

congrats on the theory passes, hope to hear you have got the practical under your belt also soon, good luck!

Thanks mate. Oh no, dont say that! I was under the impression they was supposed to be good, i had no idea that the pass rate was that bad! My test is not for 5 weeks yet, i’m going to drive over that way in the car every weekend and get use to the roads around there.

Thanks liam.

Its the test routes that are difficult. Mcvities factory on the A6 near McDonalds is a bad turn at the lights (if you are approaching them with the factory on your left). If you don’t straddle both lanes, you wont get round. Enterprises DAF CF’s are quite long. There is another couple of nightmares-Bailey street turn (then crossroads) is a dodgy one.

Thanks for the heads up mate, i’ll go check them out. Also read that i might have to deal with a different trainer everyday aswell, hope thats not the case.

Yeah, you do have different instructors. I had Al and Eddie. Both good. Although that sounds like a hippy folk band from the seventies.

Just checked the pass rate, now 40%, the national average is 46%, but bredbury have conducted a fair few more tests than anyone else by the looks of it.

Sounds like its gone up a bit. It was in the thirties last time I looked.(Last year).

training week is not far off now eek!! does anyone know if enterprise use autos for the class 2? cheers john.

They were all manuals last year. Don’t know if they have purchased any autos yet.

Is that true about Leicester being in the top 3 worst pass rates in the country? can you post a link?

I was thinking of training with data academy in Leicester, that’s put me off big time. :frowning:

If you type into Google, ’ LGV TEST CENTRE PASS RATES 2014 ’ it will come up with it. The file is DVSA 0501.

My computer is being a ■■■■ and is struggling to open it.

WELL. ITS OVER! FOR NOW! been training with elgv in ancoats the past few days, had 12 hours of training and passed first time at bredbury with 5 minors. happy days. the other 2 lads i was with wernt so lucky. i also found out my instructor was new to the job and i was his first pass  my first day training was nerv racking, not only was my instuctor nervous, i was crappin myself, i had 2 instructors with me, i was been watched, and so was my instructor andy. but anyway its done with for now, will be going back soon to do my class 1.
cant thank the lads at enterprsie enough

could anyone clarify what i need to do next, i’m getting confused with the cpc. do i just need to do 35hours in a classroom, or do i need to do the initial CPC test and half hour demonstration? also can i now send off for my digi card? thanks john.

Congratulations. Great feeling getting that cert in your hand. Being 26 you’ll have passed your car test after 1997 so it’s the initial CPC modules 2 and 4 for you to get your first DQC. After that it’s 35hrs periodic training before 5 years elapses from getting your initial CPC. Either one lot of 7 hours each year or a block of 35hrs over 5 days. These are handy vids to watch for your mod 4.
