joedwyer1:
ive read all the books and used the tacho simulator. but i need some real world explainations on some of the tacho rules.
you are not alone there
joedwyer1:
please give me an example of when i can use p.o.a?
and what effect does it have on my daily driving hours?
you can use poa when you know about a hold up in advance, say you do the same run every week and you get to a drop and it is always a 30 minute wait until you can get on a bay then you can put it on POA or of they phone you when you are on the way and say it will be about 1 hour before they can unload you then POA it when you get there, what most people do is whack it on rest, its easier and you get your rests in. it doesn’t effect your daily driving hours (some digital tacho’s reset your driving time (to allow you another 4.5 hours) after 45 mins on POA but legally it does not reset your driving (of 4.5 hours) only break can do that.
joedwyer1:
what happens if i take a 15 minute break at say 3 hours then the other 30 at 4.5 hours. im not all that up with the digi tachos and don’t really understand what the display is telling me when i press the down button
then you have another 4.5 hours driving to use (as long as it is your first 4.5 that has just finished) or 1 more hour if it is your second 4.5 hour period and you have one of your 2 10 hour drives left for that fixed week
joedwyer1:
im agency and only do a few shifts here and there. there is never any paper in the tacho. who is supposed to provide paper?
see the transport office and get a roll for the unit and try to get at least 2 spares as you need to carry some spares by law. I would advise you buy some yourself (it doesn’t matter how much you pay for them) and charge them at £4 a roll everytime you use one (under incidental expenses) , they will soon get the hint and replace the ones in your wagon. If they don’t give you any paper and you don’t have any refuse to take the wagon as it will be you in the brown and smelly if stopped and there isn’t any paper in the machine!
joedwyer1:
maximum 11 hours on duty? please explain
your maximum allowed working hours is 15 hours 3 times a working week as you need to have at least 9 hours rest prior to the end of your 24 hour period. If you start at 0600, you would need to have had at least 9 hours rest by 0600 the next day as long as you have the ability to use a 9 hour rest (you can reduce your rest to 9 hours 3 times in any given working week (between rest periods)). I have no idea where you get the 11 hours max as it is either 15 or 13 max; it depends on what rests you have at your disposal
joedwyer1:
do i need to make printouts at the end of the shift?
you don’t need to but like has been said your agency might want them so do it anyway.
joedwyer1:
many thanks
You’re welcome
I think I got most of it right but someone will be along to explain it a bit better in a moment no doubt.
