wire:
So let me get this straight. Please put me right if i am missing anything out.
On January the 20th you were asking for help and advice regarding this already far too good to be true job opportunity that had dropped into your lap quite by luck working for a gorgeous but naive young entrepreneur girly who offered you fantastic wages and as far as any other expenses go (CDC accessories, ect) money no object whatsoever.
This work involves port work right? Well known as being the poorest revenue earning aspect of a poor paying industry but it’s ok because these people are rich.
All this despite the fact that in your own words you don’t have any experience yourself.
By january 28th…one week later… you have proved yourself out on the road and have been promoted into the office and your employer is now giving you a free hand to employ new drivers, advise on wages and conditions and is seeking your advice on what trucks to buy next…Oh yeah and she has been out and bought a brand new top of the range Daf and had it delivered and put on the road ready for next week.
SalopDrive1976:
She asked me to step in to the office as my CV shows what I use to do (as you know where) and I would be far far happier doing the office side of it…I will admit it is my fault about the wages, but if you look at it like this … 40 hours @ at tenner, say 20 at 12.50,then n/o and food allowance on top will still bring the invoice total to around 700 a week.
The work is so so easy,I found out why it is easy and it is also well paid for her.
Right, hang on a mo, lets look at this another way. Our Mr.SD1976 sounds like a very sharp operator to me:
Lets say average 60 hrs per week. (Lots of POA on boxes)
40 x 10 = 400 + 20 x 12.50 = 250 total 650/5 days = 130 a day self employed
Not much. Meanwhile he charges Emma 150 a day. £20 x 5 drivers = £100 a day in his sky rocket! PLUS his own wage, which won’t be less than he’s on now.
On top of that 5 drivers x 4 nights out a week = 20 nights, he makes a tenner on each that’s another £200 a week he’s pocketed.
Very smart SD. I take my hat off to you.
Now, next problem, HRMC ain’t gonna be happy when the self employed drivers only work full time for one employer. You’d best read up on the rules about that.
SalopDrive1976:
I do seem what agree with you…I do know what the truck gets paid as I had a chat to the guy in S’ton who runs us.
I get £150 per day plus £30 per night,so I invoiced her £870,I know I have to deduct my own tax etc but it still isn’t bad as it wasn’t really a hard week.
Monday I am dropping my 2 empty boxes at S’ton for 10am,then loading for Ayr in Scotland…I have been told I am booked for 8am on on Wednesday. Then back EMPTY,then the same two in Shropshire for Monday delivery and not Friday.
I wouldn’t put last weeks earnings on here, but it certainly wasn’t that bad,I think myself it’s a case of who you know, not what you know in this case,I may be wrong…
Something is not right here. The bits in red don’t add up. The rest of it all sounds mad enough anyway.
Guys,guys guys…
I have been with her tonight for dinner plus of course we have talked alot about the offer she has offered me and work and trucks etc.
Alot more has come to light,some I gussed at,and I was right…
Her husband owns 33% of a container company he has jack to do with,by the sounds of it it was purely a business investment.
She owned and worked at a company in Luton making head ache pills and stuff, but she sold up in 2010 and is now bored out of her mind, she for some mad crazy reason wants to do the truck thing,so let her !
FACT,that tonight “we” have agreed she will add another 8 trucks to her two, making 10,by June she wants 20 on the road and by the end of the year 40,she seems a lass who gets what she wants.I know down to the penny what she got for the work I did last week, and if that continues she will make good money. That’s her affair and not mine to poke my hooter in at.
As for wages, the drivers invoice HER and NOT me,so I am not making a single penny off them, and yes my wage is a good one,and off course a hell of alot more than the money I earnt this week driving.
I have offered one driver the truck I was driving and another one one of the Volvo’s we are going to be getting. The drivers will be paid good money as they should be !
So,what more do you want to know?
O,one of the other companies her husband owns 100% of is a well known shipping company and also a steel company.
Sounds like you’ve definitely dropped into a lucky slot there.
I’ve never worked with boxes, but gossip here would suggest people pull them for £1 odd a mile. That will include 20’ ers. So by doubling up it wouldn’t suprise me if she’s on £2.50 a mile. (I know empty running is a lower rate).
The success this couple have already achieved (and it very likely already runs in their respective familes) she WILL have done her home work.
Also, if the venture keeps her busy, but doesn’t make a penny profit = mission accomplished.
The further info that has come to light doesn’t suprise me. I had wondered before if it was being done on an own account O licence.

All this sounds like a massive lie to me. Why don’t you post a picture of the 2 trucks she has got now?
Simple answer to that chap.
I am not a sad trucker who wants to take a pic of his work tool, and I have not got a photo on me,but will take a few on Monday if it keeps you happy.
PS,NO I will not give you a job,so please don’t ask again.
Thanks !

Truck drivers who take pictures of their trucks aren’t sad more people who take pride in their work and share with people like me who want to become a truck driver or the kids who are in a phase of liking big machinery/trucks not being funny but things like that can put a smile to a kids face. Some how more satisfying than being a miserable sod who thinks it’s sad to take pictures of their truck. To be honest id rather there be more ‘sad truckers’ who take pictures of their trucks and share their journeys with us. It makes for great reading and to be honest it’s nice to see other peoples creativity because thanks to some members on here who take pictures of their trucks and write about their trips it gave me the ideas for my own work at college. Personally I think the ‘sad’ truckers are those who constantly whine about the job and have no pride in their work generally those who don’t give a ■■■■. And you know how the old saying goes, if it sounds too good to be true it normally is. This sounds like exactly that.

Don’t want a job. Just all seems very fast that on the 20th you was asking for advice on containers and now 9 days later after 1 week your in the office employing drivers and setting wages. How does this other driver who was employed at the same time as you feel about your massive promotion
On seeking and taking advise I won’t be adding any more posts to this.
In due course you will see her trucks around.
At the moment she is **** **** t/a ***** but soon as the new trucks arrive it will be another name.
So you will soon see them.
As for drivers,I have found some guys off her, plus an advert in a major mag which of course will promote the new company
