I’ve found this site very interesting and informative to help me along the paths of my new career being a LGV driver.
I on the 28/03/13 passed my Class 2 and will start the process of “Knocking on doors” in addition to the many CV’s I have already sent.
I come from a back round of PSV coach and bus driving and would think that the Large Vehicle experience would count towards LGV, not!
Along with my letters of good attendance, supervising driver mentoring etc, etc, all to no avail as it is experience that counts.
All I do now is wait in anticipation to be given a chance.
Maybe I’ll offer to work for a week, for free?
I’m in Nottingham and would work in the East Midlands if there are any offers going
When I struggled to get my work after passing Cat C I decided to get my C+E. Went straight in to driving artics. Wouldn’t say it was easy finding work but it wasn’t impossible.
Some are anxious about going straight into artic work but I just went for it, the anxiety soon passes.
Just get an account on Directgov, upload a CV and apply for every job every day. Eventually the offers will start coming in. Stobarts take newbies on so if you get your C+E find out which agency supplies your local depot and join with them. You can apply direct but be prepared to wait. They offered me a job recently but I applied late last year and already have a full time job elsewhere now.

Curious - What expiry date is on your DQC?
Not got DQC yet. Only have 28 hours banked. Had B licence since '85 so Grandfather rights might apply?

I have just applied for 22 jobs using www.yell.com. Type in road haulage services and your area to narrow it down.
I am only on page 4 and have used their websites to apply. Another 4 to go. I will now be posting those without websites a CV and cold call them.
I have 3 interviews today and hopefully all will want to employ me? They are advertising newly passed accepted.
My question is I would like to do my ADR and add that to my CV. Who can I do it with in the Nottingham, Derby area and what cost could i expect to pay?
I am looking into tanker work once driving experience has built up.

Agency is often a great way to get started as you often end up having driven a lot of different trucks in your first year.
Let’s hope the agency don’t let you down.
Drove a curtain sided rigid with tail lift today and next week are skips. I hope the agency keep this up dar1976?
In no time I could have HIIAB, ADR and Moffat at this rate
Try the Rapido, Gumtree and Eures job search webistes, and the Trade it free mag has driving jobs.
For free you can place an advert in one of the truck mags, an employer will then contact you.
Buy all the local papers for the elusive job, and respond to it very quickly, if not too far away, drive to the premises, ask for the application form, fill it out in the car, and give it to them that day.
Try farmers in the area, or horse stables, some go all over Europe for events and shows.

Thank you. Already doing some and some good advice again.
Try Taylors Transport at Kirkby in Ashfield they are always after Class2 drivers (They will take new drivers) not the best company around but at least it will get you started Pete West is the TM they also run courses as well ADR and CPC but it will tie you to them for a period if you take them hope this helps.
I passed my test 20 feb this year.
Its a real catch 22 when your getting your experiance to because i found companies will stick you in a little class 2 lorry to break you in a bit with the vehicle. but the problem is this was a pallet delivering company and you got sent to the real remote places down single track lanes coz it was the only lorry that would fit. So it good experience but really tough. What you need is a big artic and nice motorways.
Im hoping driving a refuge lorry will be easier.

Pallet deliveries to a remote part of Pershore down a country lane. All good fun.
Next week are skips, so that will be fun. 2 days training first then let off on my own.
I have applied to Taylors already and await their reply.
