Newbie, and wannabe from sunny staffs

hello guys and gals, thought i would join this forum for support through my decision to go for my class two again having failed and left disheartened by what i thought was a farce by the examiner last year i found a job driving a van which is to end in start of may. i know there may be lots of newbies ask this question but is there work out there? im not one to sit on my backside and wait for it to find me cus that isnt going to happen, a few mates are hgv drivers and have shared opinions, what do you guys think? i would really appreciate the feedback as its not cheap and because of last years events i want to go in knowing im doing the right thing  thanks!!

Welcome to the site, theres not alot of work out there at the moment but people on here are finding work lately so it is possible. Retake your test again you don’t want to regret it when your old!

yes ive noticed when reding some posts, i take it agencies are going to be the starting point? thanks for the reply

Hey mate and welcome.

As said not a lot if work, but have heard after December it always gets quiet. As its also showing to be true as a few newbies have found work in the last couple of weeks, so looking good.

Cheers Gareth, ive got to take the test, in time im bound to find a job doing what ive always wanted to do, plus its another skill below my belt. My aim eventually is to go for my c+e licence but hey walk before i run lol

Hi and welcome. For a long time agencies have been seen as the starting point for many new drivers. But things seem to be changing and, reading posts on this forum and from calls I receive from past trainees, it seems that working direct for companies is becoming more the norm.

But be under no illusion that it’s tough out there. Not as tough as it has been but still not a walk in the park.

All the best, Pete

thanks Pete, its good to hear all the different opinions, im not expecting it to be easy ,just want to make a living in the long run.

Hi John

If you have mates who are already in the job, that may be a good way for you to get into something

Word of mouth works well in this industry, so speak to them first and see if there’s anything going where they work
