Newbie after a recommedation!

Myself and one other poster “ollienotts,” whom I quoted above. His post is on there.

I’ve no axe to grind and no reason to make things up, Ian Markwick was incredibly unpleasant and unprofessional.

So that’s two, out of six who mention him.

The way he spoke to me at times was down right rude and if it had been a proper company as opposed to a one man and his truck situation I wouldn of took it. For example he many a time called me a see you next tuesday and an effin idiot! Had he not just took 500 quid off me i’d of dragged him out his unit and kick [zb] out of him! And if I ever have the pleasure of seeing this ■■■■ in the street again I might just do that. He never spoke like it to the other lad on course, but then his boss sends all his lads there and gets em up to class 1 standard so there’s no suprise. All I would say is you need very thick skin to work with this guy as he wants it perfect every time.
I hope he goes bust

I take it that you are not recommending that school then…

LGV TRAINING TIPS - LGV INSTRUCTOR 2005 to 2008 - LGV DRIVER 1978 TO 2004
SENIOR OBSERVER FOR ADVANCED DRIVING (retirement hobby)

It was on your own post!

Hi all,

Well ive started the process off today, I’m completing all training back to back (C then C+E) with Peter Smythe Transport. TBH I went up to his centre this morning and had a walk around, the instructor that I had a chat with was really nice, explained some extra bits that I hadnt thought of, vehicles were all very clean and very good condition, low mileage etc etc

The centre itself was well laid out and helps that the training is done in the same place as your test as Peters centre is DSA registered.

Anyway, I rang round a few places and managed to find a GP to do my medical this evening at 8pm at their house, and only £49!!! Not sure if i’ll be posting on her later feeling relieved or violated…either way aslong as that docs signature is on that form and its in the post then I think I can handle some gentle cupping :grimacing:

Tim

The medical is nothing to worry about unless you have…

Poor Eyesight
Sugar in Your Urine
High Blood Pressure
Heart Defect.

If all the above are not a problem it’ll be 49 quid well spent.

PSTT is a great choice and doing them back to back should stop any bad habits creeping in. Obviously that relies on a first time C pass or the budget for retests.

The other thing to consider (and I’m sure Pete would have mentioned it) is that Back to Back is a very loose phrase with LGV training as you have to wait for a valid CE provisional licence through the post before you can do your CE training.

Dar1976, ye ur right, what I didnt want to do was get the C license then sit doing couple of years work before taking the class C+E, as you say habits creep in and things come up so I’ve booked the lot…balls to it lol

The medical doesnt bother me, just hoping that if I’m seeing a doctor at their house, when its dark, it better be a woman dressed in PVC  !!! Just my luck they’ll be 86yrs old, false teeth, a bloke…and wearing PVC lmao :grimacing:

If you have a doctor who looks like that with PVC, I will be travelling for my HGV renewal

From your posts I really didnt see you as an OAP lover!!!

The Fit 25 yr old with PVC lol

Good choice of training provider  . i trust you will be doing a write up of your “journey” to c+e :sunglasses: ?
Good luck with the medical :unamused:

cheers Mike

Dar1976, 6ft mousey blonde… No PVC but wouldn’t kick her out of bed to get to u buddy lol sorry chap couldn’t resist that!!!

Mike, medical is done, doc was really cool, does every thing from home and cheap at 49 quid!! License is now firmly in the hands of Royal Mail en route to the dvla, will keep informed of the journey diary if anyone’s interested lol

It is good that you are doing your CE as well I passed mine with LGV Trainer ( John ) who was excellent btw

This has certainly opened more door for me

Good luck

An update on the Watnall testing station.
The first time I went their years ago I failed due to a Kerb on a roundabout. (jumped out at me, honest) I was despondent so went into bus driving for a major company in Nottingham.

I felt the need to move on and decided to take my savings and re-sit the LGV experience.
I chose a driver training school and with the experience of driving large vehicles made it easier, however the trainer was a very militant man, (ex MOD) his training skills need reviewing as he has the habit of shouting at you rather than collectively coaching you.
Needless to say I passed and went to Watnall. I was a bit apprehensive due to my last test and was expecting the worst, however as a slap in the face to the trainer and after I never even got a well done gesture or thank-you.
When I do my Class 1 I intend to use Ian Markwick, unless the company that employs me is going to fund it.

I would recommend Watnall, but that is my opinion.
