Newbee's first post. A cautionary tale!

Hi everyone! Just stumbled on this site and wanted to say hello.
I am just about to take my second course of C lessons after managing to fail it last time with an error of judgement giving me a serious on my last test. Made the mistake of squeezing past a bin truck on Queens Dr Liverpool (did’nt hit it but the lovely Donna thought I should of waited as I first said I was going to). Never mind, I thought I was going to fail a I had a bit of a rough time with the training company I had the misfortune to use. To be honest if I had of passed it would of been in spite of them, not because of them! It all started when they decided to cut down on the hours I had arranged to do saying that the offer on their website was not applicable to me even though we agreed on 20 hours on the assessment drive… They only told me about cutting down my hours over the phone a week later and never sent me the revised dates by post. Undeterred I waited for the new date to arrive only to receive a phone call the day before I was due to start to ask why I wasn’t there this morning !!! Now I am prepared to believe I could of made a mistake normally but the rearranged start date told to me over the phone happened to also be my sons birthday so I am pretty sure it wasn’t me making the mistake! “Could I still take my test at the arranged date by doing a weekend lesson?” I asked “Absoloutley not” was the reply “we don’t work sundays” Being a determined sort of chap I rang their other office and asked if a sunday lesson was possible, “no problem” was the reply so I rang my instructor back to tell him the happy news only to be yelled at about him “not actually owning that branch” and “you should not go behind my back like that” So much for using my inititive! I did eventually have my 14 hours plus test, but had three different instructors and two different trucks!!!
Sorry about the long message but I thought my story may be of use to somebode else.

Welcome to the Forum/Site
Sorry to hear about you not passing, but it seems to me that you didn’t pass because of an error of judgement. If you had waited would you have passed?

Your Training Company sounds like a bunch of Cowboys, i don’t know if it’s wise to name them just yet. Have you decided to go for your test again.
Did you pay by Credit Card? I don’t know if they could help because you didn’t get what you paid for or what you thought you’d be getting according to their website.

Have a read of a post by Rog. I will bet our kids dinner money that the company has already had a mention on this site

**:D   Welcome Warren T. Claim   ** [__GENERAL DRIVING TIPS *BEFORE* STARTING LGV C TRAINING (Link)__](http://trucknetuk.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=31611&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=)

If you click the link in my signature or this (Forum sponser logo) it will lead you to an index where you can access a lot more info which may be of use to you

To book any LGV training I suggest the trainee-to-be, visits the training school, meets the head person(s) and has a quick look at the truck BEFORE parting with any money.

Using the site Search facility and putting the words TRAINING AND WHERE you wish to train may turn up some recommendations.

“not actually owning that branch”

offer on their website

On their website, did it say something like ‘we have over 40 training centres’

If it did, we know about all of them on here so you can feel free to name the company -we’ll probably say ‘Oh, that one again’ :exclamation:

I’ve said before that the internet is the playground for these type of companies - the old ‘look in the phone book’ is the best way to get a local company that perhaps cannot afford to spend loads of money on fancy web adverts to ‘get you’ :unamused:

Name and shame then!

Name and shame then!

I wouldn’t just yet in case he needs this Company for his next Test. not many Training Companies will let you just book a test with them if you have used another for instruction. I’ve tried and been ‘fobbed’ off.
If this got back to his currant training company they may not let him take another test with them or use their vehicles. “We’ve read about you ‘slagging’ us off on trucknetuk.com so naff off”

Hi and thanks for all your kind replies! I dont want to name the company because , lets face it ALL companies of all sizes from one man band builders to multinationals get both complaints and compliments and by doing a quick search on this site i’ve seen many good remarks made about this company and am willing to put my experiences with them down to an unlucky series of events :frowning: I don’t want to worry any current pupils of theirs who may be reading this and put them in the wrong frame of mind for their test. Rest assured that I have not returned to them for my next course of lessons starting this week! The new company I will be learning with is called AJM TRANSPORT TRAINING if anyone knows anything about them, good or bad , let me know. I am wise enough to know that to pass I need to be comfortable with both my truck and instructor as my test is booked at Simonswood, Kirkby on the28th of this month. If there is enough interest I may write a training blog- let me know…

I put the words AJM AND TRAINING AND SCHOOL into the site search facility at the top of this page and it gave me some links one of which was THIS ONE
