Newbee Introduction

Haveing joined and started joining in and posting comments,i thought it was about time i told you a little about myself.

I must confess to not being a driver as such, but being in the maintenance/repair
side of the industry, where i have had the chance to drive various types of vehicle.

I started in the trade straight from school in 1989 at the age of 16,so i was lucky enough to catch the end of the longer lasting British manufacturers
As an enthusiast, where my main interest lies,i am a paticular fan of the late70s era up until i started work,ie what i saw as a boy,and i have a personal taste for the technical side of the wagons,ie what engine/gearbox etc is fitted, and how things work.

Welcome and good to see a new ‘face’.

welcome kev , there are plenty of old ( and not so old ) codgers on here with knowledge of the technical side of the job , you’ll be up to your neck in gearboxes , diffs and engines before long , regards , dave

Welcome Kev, Im one of the oldies, A Gardner, Eaton two speed axle, Foden 12 speed box man, Long gone now, Wagons have changed a hell of a lot since my early days of driving them, But its nice to see that you show a very keen interest in modern day motors, & Im sure you will enjoy the crack on this thread, Regards Larry.

By it’s nice to see a “youngster” joining the site who’s not 730BHP “cab happy” and is interested in the technical side of the industry up to the 70’s,I’m sure that any questions you ask can be answered by one of the regulars on the site who were active during the era you are interested in.I sincerely hope you will enjoy the future “craic” on the site.Cheers Bewick.

Thanks for the welcome Gents

Larry,as i say,i was lucky.we had a local Exel Logistics depot running a T-reg ERF Bseries with a 6LXB/db 6-speed/eaton 2-speed driveline. i mastered the axle, but played a tune or two on the box! (i always struggled to find reverse too :open_mouth: )
Also,my employer had a shunter,A B-series with a 265RR and reverse pattern
fuller box,and i loved that old girl to bits!

Bewick, spot on. Good as they may be,show me a Scania 164/Daf XF/Merc Actros
600hp,and i’m so/so,yet if i hear an ERF LV with a 5 pot Gardner 100,or a nice
■■■■■■■ 205/220,or a Clydesdale with a00 engine, and i’ll get all dewey eyed!

And to all of you,the “Old codgers” are what drew me to the site! I got to work with some of the real characters when i first started, and they no longer exist in the trade sadly. You guys are full of old stories/witt/and experiences of life, and i love to hear and read all that, hence why i have joined here!

And also,an extra pair of eyes on the eternal search for the Guy Big j/8LXB!!!

welcome to the forum kev.
