i am a newbe roamer and looking for tips. i have no idea where to stay and how to navigate to tiny yards where my truck sat nav gets me within about 3 miles, and how to run my hours without being arested or worked to death lol. does anyone have any tips to help?
thanks for that. i do have some idea about running my hours but i have only worked day/nightshifts so it has all been quite straight forward. i imagine that i will have to stop in the services for the first few weeks till i start getting familier with the various drops and can figure out where i can stay more economically. just worried that i might run out of hours before i find a safe laybay on a trunk road!
do most drivers cook in/near there cabs or eat from the sevices/truck stop?
also worried about being sent to tiny yards in the middle of london on a friday afternoon with no idea how the hell i am going to back in. my reversing still needs some work!
can i trust my snooper s2000truckmate satnav. (if i can’t, don’t tell me! lol)
read the roadtransport PDF. a familiar with most of the basics, haven’t got my head round splitting my rest. i am back every weekend so i won’t get in to the really complicated stuff at this stage! this is all presuming i will be working under the EU regs of course!
Hiyyaaa captainfire, truckers handbook (female author) is full of usefull information & also a usefull guide of places &facilities available - from a good high street book shop. It may be a good idea to take something with you to eat, high in energy but low volume - just in case you need it & welcome
thanx bonnie lass. will look for the truckers hand book tomorrow. how far is it acceptable to go off route to look for somewhere to stop for the night? can you park in any laybay and sleep for the night?
yeah. learnt loads this week. only did 4 days work and 2 nights out. the sat nav is billient. still need to get out and ask for the last Km sometimes. did find find places to stop and took my own food to cook. rat packs u can’t beat them lol. roaming is ok. ur head is in a different place from shift work so u can settle in to it and not just watch the clock. i will stand by for next week though! lol

Good on ya Jack
I’m just doing some agency 2’s work to try and get me back on the road before getting back into a 1’s as its been a while!! I’m amazed at how little ‘induction’ you get with agency work! OK its been none so far just get in the truck go here and pick up your load. Been out in a Co op lorry this week driving to local shops in a fridge wagon, no idea how it works but when I asked was told to just get on with it! Glad it was ambient not frozen!!!
there is a criminal lack of training. but if they ain’t told u, u can’t be wrong. remember, u r only as good as ur training and ur supervision as i am sure u remember from ur days in the green machine!
