Iām 22 with Class 1.
Got my Class 2 license November 2010 and Class 1 License January 2011.
Started job on rigids in October 2011 and still driving for them.
There is maybe 5 other drivers local to me 20-25 years of age with Class 1 license driving Class 1 and Class 2
Intersting to read that although drivers in this age group cannot ever have had Class 1, 2 etc, they still think of them as that.
Will C and C+E ever gain the same kudos?
Might be a stupid question but arenāt C+E/C the same as Class 1/Class 2?
Iām from Ireland so its C+E on my license but I just refer to it as Class 1 because thats generally what its known as on here.

in general yes they are but technically the name changed (in the UK ) a few years ago.
but most still refer to them as class 1 etc and you have to admit it sounds better
Good to know, prefer Class 1 myself too
unless you are 3rd class
im 25 had licence since 21 been full time on road about a year and half now, but always done bits before that
24 here. not driven in anger yet because no one wants to take me full timeā¦
I think a lot of drivers people are seeing they think are in their early twenties are in reality quite a bit older than that.
Our insurers wonāt have anyone under 25 end of.
Most RDC driverās waiting areas still look more like the TV room in an old folkās home.

OUCH!!!
Got a couple of guys working at ours in their mid twenties, plus a 21 year old just started this week
Makes me feel old now at 29, i was the youngest when i started at 24
Got my class one june last year been at since thenā¦
Really have to say that I would gladly retire and move over and give a youngster my place in the engine room. Trouble is the government wonāt let me do it for another ten years ( could be longer though if pensions canāt be afforded!) so Iāll just have to sit tight. Sorry!
i only just turned 30!
Im 23. Been driving a year now.
Have HIAB, C2+ C1 which i use. Do nights out and really enjoy it. Theres a few where i work as well as older guys but to be honest, i dont see any other young drivers out there which is a shame and worrying.
Ben
Just turned 24 been driving artics since 21 on full time employment and agency. The worst thing about being a young driver is you still get people trying to teach you to ā ā ā ā eggs. Im still learning and Iāll always ask but there are some right patronising people out there who think they are the dogs bollox.
29 in november, been driving for 4 1/2 yr, love it too!
Ok Iām 33 in September, but Iāve been on Smiths since I was 19. Given the āquarry flagshipā Cat 970 then got Class 2 at 21 and was asked to āhelp outā during a driver shortage. 11 years and one new Foden later I was asked to āhelp outā during a plant op shortage and Iām now on our āquarry flagshipā Cat 972. (The 970 long departed for a hot country).
A nice 19 year old lass has got my Foden. A top banger racer for those into that sport (Stacey her name is). Caught her reading āFifty Shadesā¦ā the other day and sheās single
Iām 23. Been driving class 2 nearly 2 years and artics 18 months. Love my new job. Glad people are giving young people a chance. Been in my new job for 5 weeks now and the gaffer is chuffed, I graft harder than any of the older guys and still think its easy. Good lads. Fair money.
I have a lot of respect for the āold boysā and listen to tips they pass on. Enjoy the tall tales of the āgood timesā
I think I read somewhere before about an ageing workforce in the Hgv industry, so it was only a matter of time before employers had to take risks on younger driversā¦
