New years resolution. Quoting unnecessary quotes

A request for the mods to delete unnecessary quotes and re-quotes for next year and future years :unamused:

I’ve posted this before but come on lads n lasses it really isn’t necessary :unamused: when replying to the exact previous post, just post!! It follows on and we can all keep up, easy really.

When quoting from further up it’s not necessary to post the 3rd, 4th or 5th persons quote as well. Just the one you are replying to.

It’s an unnecessary ball ache scrolling through pages and posts to get to the most recent :unamused:

I know I sound like my Dad bringing it up again but please give it a rest

Happy new year

I think they already did something, you now can’t post with more than 4 embedded set of quotes.

Well I think sometimes it can be very useful, to post with quotes.

I’ve got a fantastic life thank you I just don’t want to reread what I’ve already read

Unlike muckles & raymundo who think they’re funny :unamused: exactly what I meant :imp:

This happened last time I posted it - children eh :unamused:

i am not a child ,i will put your new post down to childish attention seeking, you have obviously posted it again cos you know everyone will quote you , hopefully one day you will grow up mate

Not attention seeking at all I actually want it stopped. The childish bit is from you because you think it amusing to quote a totally unnecessary post :unamused: :unamused: I’ve already grown up and am feeling quite content with everything thank you.

On a leaving note, I’m NOT your mate :unamused:

What the hell does happy, cheerful and seasonal mean

I’ve been working all day by choice and enjoyed it as far as work goes :exclamation:

I’m always happy, which I think means the same as cheerful :unamused: seasonal!! I’ll go for that as well.

Christmas is for kids and mine are all grown up. Wife works in hospital, I drive, both are needed today so who’s the bah humbug?? You haven’t got a clue what I moved today have you - and you don’t need to :arrow_right: move on and don’t re quote.

I’m not your mate either :imp:

Considering relative screen size to finger size ratio, careful editing is not always possible. Hence multiquotes and poor spelling from me.

Yep 4 embedded quotes is the limit I think.

Sometimes I will edit the quotes to reduce the repition but occasionally its usefull to new members finding a thread and being able to follow the flow of conversation. Especially if its kicking off a bit.

Theres also those members on premod who may join the conversation late who need quoting as they have come up with a great point that may be missed.

What really drys my ■■■■■ is those threads that just have a link to a news article in the OP and nothing else. Not that they arent interesting articles just that the opening poster could at least put the effort in and quote the article in question a bit and even give a paragraph or twos comment or critique. Lazy journalism if you ask me + those on limited bandwidth have to load a new page that may or may not be of interest to them.

Oh and my new years resolution is to cut down on self pleasuring, I really have to take myself in hand and control these urges.

He spent Christmas Day worrying himself silly about bus lanes, so I’d say not.

Hmm, we’ll see if the 5th quotes is auto removed

A bit of sensibility in all things, i too will try and edit the quotes to just the posters names (in quotes) and a relevant line if neceassry to save too much repetition, but when we get multiple quotes that often ends up a right ■■■■ up anyway, plus by selective quoting its too easy for the person doing the editing to take a posters meaning out of context when those who join a thread late see what the quoter and not the quoted wanted you to read.

Some people here have sense of humour, some had a bypass of that function many years ago and you have to tread on eggshells around them, this thread already proving that.

Without ‘quoting’ just referring to the poster you wish to address or comment upon or engage, just putting their name easily gets lost.

I agree that quoting full texts from some ling winded waffle posts…racking what’s left of me mind trying to think of someone who might do that     …might be a bit over the top so a sensible solution might be to just quote the first line, but if the first quoting poster doesn’t do that it can all go to pieces.

So long as the site owners don’t mind i don’t, but then i’m always on a desktop not having, and not wanting, a so called smart phone…the owners of which might feel differently.

Well, that answered it, for the first time for me in big red letters about the 4 quote embed limit, learn summat every day.
And goes to prove what i said, some ham fisted bugger, me, has just cocked the quoting right up so Dipper Dave’s posts looks like its part of mine.

Couldn’t agree more, but I doubt anyone will take notice. See above!

Here is one for the real enthusiasts

Fill ya boots… :stuck_out_tongue:

Reduce energy consumption and time wasting by simply not quoting anything from Carryfast.

Sometimes quoting is useful to make it clear what you’re replying to, that applies especially to threads that go off on a tangent and 2 or more discussions take place in the same thread, I agree though that quoting multiple posts just for the sake of it is pointless and often makes threads harder to read.
