Its the age old thing, companies wont give you a shot as you haven`t got the experience, but how do you get the experience if no one will give you a shot??
Im lucky that I have the offer of lots of backside in seat time through various folk I know, through working in haulage for a number of years, but how do most people go about getting the chance to drive? Do most people just go to agencies or is there another option that Ive missed?
Times are a changing Trouble These hairy-eared old boyâs with stories of manual gearboxes and something called â roping & sheeting â are in for a shock.
Us new lads are a much better breed. In fact, I reckon most of them have no chance of reading an e-mail, texting the girlfriend, playing Candy Crush Saga and updating Facebook whilst wearing headphones at 56mph.
Dont think Ive quite got a good enough credit score for a V8 Scania just yet

What you can do is what many of us did, you go round knocking on doors asking for a job and when that doesnât work, you start again, follow up any lead and basically get it known in the industry that youâre looking for a job.
Hopefully one day youâll walk into the right place at the right time or in my case youâll get a phone call asking if you can do a rush job in a rigid, once youâve delivered the goods and got the truck back in one piece they seem far keener on you driving for them, even let you loose with an Artic.
My lad just emailed companies. Got a job within 2 weeks of passing his test doing pallet network multidrop. Not the best job or pay in the world but once youâve got 6 months under your belt youâre a whole lot more employable.

Ok, so door knocking, literally. Yeah that makes sense I suppose, and as you say once youve been given a chance, you can prove you can bring it back in one piece, its just getting your foot on the first rung of the ladder.

Wow, that`s good going, do you think you need a sprinkling of luck as well? Like right place right time sort of thing?
