New Volvo.

Never seen the inside of one yet but judging by the comments about this electric handbrake thing, Im not a fan.
I have no trust, nothing beats pulling a big lever down and hearing “tttttssssshhhhhhhh” to know the park brake is on.

i agree FB, jst googled the handbrake and it looks like this :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Mine goes “shhhhhhhoooooooooosh”. Should I be worried?

on the phone to the good lady last week while stuck in traffic, told her mine’s haunted, when the air is built uo instead of a hiss of air releasing there is a whooooooooooooooooo sound!!! i love the auto handbrake but think anyone who drives on of these long term will have problems when they get back in the seat of anything else, don’t need to apply park brake, just turn off ignition, don’t need to release it, just put her in gear and drive.
someone posted about accesories working, according to the book when you turn off the key the truck is put into ‘living’ mode, you can use the radio, turn on the interior lights and open and close the windows, after 12 hours the truck should automatically go into ‘parked’ mode.
the fridge will shut down automatically after 45 hours of being parked. bet you can’t tell i’ve been doing a lot of reading!!!

Haven’t driven one and probably unlikely to any time soon, but a Stuart Nicol driver let me have a sit in his cab and I have to say the mirror set up has been perfected. All other manufacturers should take note. The new FH is how it should be done.

got to agree, i love the mirrors, they cut down massively on blind spots, seem so much better for blindsiding as well!

Another if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. I still can’t forgive Scania for ditching 4 over 4 for 3 over 3.

I’ve not seen the new hand brake in the new FH so can’t comment. The deterioration of our roads means every improvement in ride quality & handling is welcome though so props for that.

That depends on what Series truck & engine you have, my P400 has a 4 over 4 manual gearbox & it’s a 13 plate.

Yeah, I knew the newer diddy ones had a 4 over 4. I just couldn’t spec it on a v8 a while back so had to have opticruise instead which I regretted afterward. It’s not too bad but it just wasn’t the best, I believe the newer 2 pedal opticruise is much better.

So you’re saying the park brake comes on automatically when you switch off and turns off when you press the throttle in gear?

Sounds like a good idea to me as a lazy man & also to prevent roll aways but like has been said you wouldn’t want to go from a wagon that has it to one that doesn’t!

turn the engine off and the handbrake comes on and yes start into gear and pull away… got to like it now. Really pleased with mine. so far no worries with power in the cab.
so far had to visit dealer to sort loose exhaust.

Presumably you can just pull the tab to put it on and off as well?

I was having a good look around the outside of a new FH the other day and I noticed that the wing tops and mud wing assembly was identical to the ones on my Renault Premium. I know they are all part of the same company but I’d have thought that with Volvo being that bit more upmarket, they wouldn’t have fitted the same ones as they do on a gaffer spec Renault.
Although I suppose the standard fitted LED rear lamp unit gives it more of a quality look about it.

if you start the truck with the door open, or open it once in gear the handbrake will not auto release, to release it you need to press up on the handbrake switch while applying the footbrake!

So let’s say you come to a stop, leave the engine on, in gear or not & open the door does it come on automatically then? If so, they’ve solved the roll away issue as that’s the only scenario I could see it still happening with this as most of us leave the engine on when coupling up.

No you would still have to put it on manually.open the dorr and it buzzes at you.

I had one of these last month. The cupboards are too small, the top bunk is too narrow, there is no leg room on the passenger side. side lockers are tiny.
I would have a volvo any day. :sunglasses:

You also appear to be missing an axle!

Nah! two are enough.

i’ve been driving one for 2 weeks now, getting to like it more each night.
lots of little buttons and toggle switches on steering wheel for menu, radio, cruise, phone, etc, etc.
if you get the full spec it has built in satnav, reversing camera display, phone, radio, , it has input for usb and jack plug, plus an mp3 player up above your head… (it looks like a cd drawer on a pc, but it doesnt open, you just stick your disc in the slot)…
you can also connect your phone via bluetooth …
downside on the one i’m driving is that its a tag axle, there are no run up ramps, so if you are trying to pick up a low trailer its a bit of a struggle… ive already bent the back 2 fifth wheel mounting bolts which stick upwards by about 4 inches… hitting them before the front of the trailer met the back of the fifth wheel plate…

Assume your not on for Canute’s any more then?

Its funny you say about the cd player, I thought it had a drawer too! lol. Must admit I like it more each day. Still got empty lockers too! Not got ramps either with a mid lift.
