New Volvo FH/FM Range

i must admit though, i turn the radio down and the window when a v8 goes past

I know exactly what you mean Seth. There’s a Belgian Father and son team who regularly tip at our place, both have black v8 Scanias with side pipes and the whole site stops to look as they drive through! It’s truck ■■■■ for the ears.

Imagine a v8 volvo

I think it depends on what fleet the company have, what a driver prefers and what he is given to drive, my preference would be a DAF, but i have driven most marks and the Renault has always had an engine with no guts ( apart from the magnum ) they have always had a decent interior though, and the fact they are gutless, is probably why they asked Volvo to supply them with a decent power train as they are not capable of designing and building one of their own  Volvo is a good marque on its own, always looks decent and has all the bells that a driver requires, along with the best autobox on the market. Renaults are cheap and dont have a good resale value, unlike the top marques of Volvo, Daf, Scania, which is an important factor, and at the end of the day, if the owner cares about his vehicles, and maintains them to a good standard, they will stand the test of time.

450 and 460 DXi in the Premium are far from being “gutless”. You clearly don’t know how to drive them if you think that. Now if you’d said Merc are gutless, especially the ones with “blue” in the engine name badge (bluetec or bluemotion or some such?) I’d have agreed with you.

I think you’ll find that Truckboys statement is correct, and I should know how gutless they were I was driving 290 20 years ago, that was gutless even for then and when we were really in the bosses bad books he let you drive the 260 (or the beast as we named it  ) with a full load of spuds. :open_mouth:

I have a 450 Dxi & it goes like stink off a shovel…

I like being a v8 fan boy, I just draw the line at the under pants.

What you did 20 years has no relevance to this thread. The Renault 450 and 460 DXi engines are not gutless. If you think they are then you need to buy yourself some LGV driving lessons.

Its simple, drivers views on what is and what isn’t gutless varies thats all. Depending on what they’ve driven before often. Plus trucks vary. Two identical trucks will often have different performance. Ive driven many a Premium in my agency days and all I remember is they are very unmemorable! Dont remember the performance being anything to write home about either way. But that’s same of most trucks Ive driven. So you know Left Hand Down you really dont have to be so dismissive of everyone you don’t agree with all the time, it seems a big old chip you’ve got there on your shoulder. Good day to you doffs hat

Couldn’t agree more. All of our New FH’s drive and perform differently. I have nothing to say about the Premiums, just that for someone tall there is not alot of room. However each to their own. I doubt that many of us have a choice in what we are given to drive after all.

Niether does talking about Renault really, but the answer to your question is yes the 450, 460 and the 440dxi are not gutless, I know this as I also drove those Renaults Premiums, and they are the ones with the Volvo engines that Truckboy refered to, if you care to read his post properly. I also drove the 385, 400 and the 420 Premiums and the 340 Majors and Managers. So I feel slightly qualified to talk about how good and bad. But obviously not as qualified as you feel to tell people you’ve never seen how to drive a particular model of truck or that thier driving is so substandard they should be taking lessons.

We have a all volvo fleet and i honestly cant find a fault with the new fh ,i was a bit unsure about the electronic handbrake but its great, only thing with the fm is the mirrors are big and cause a blind spot ,thats it,all have got ishift and i dont think anybody can find fault with that,we have loads of tucks on demo and the only one thats come good is the mp4,its supposed to be great on fuel and a few are sneaking in the fleet very soon. :open_mouth:

New MP4 is better than new FH 1,5-2 liters. Its so much.
No doubt about Ishift, the best gearbox, but MP4 averaging the best truck ATM.

If you ever had an F.B. Atkins Renault G290 you would have something to complain about.
