New type cameras

So you see a camera, or even a sign indicating a camera.and you slow down, whilst presuming the camera is in that particular spot as it is a potential rta blackspot.
So you pass that black spot at what they say is an appropriate speed…job done, no dramas.

The official line on cameras is ‘Road safety, and to prevent inappropriate speeds for that particular stretch of road’,.so when you slow down, the official purpose of the camera has been done, mission accomplished you would think?
Not good enough,.they can now get you if you slow down…brilliant eh?

And then they still continue to protest and refute the point (or fact) that the preliminary purpose is to raise money.

The preliminary purpose of cameras and the usual speed limit reductions that go with them is to criminalise drivers. As part of a stated policy of disincentivising private car use and road transport. The fines are seen as a bonus.Banned drivers obviously don’t pay fines or motoring taxes

I’d be curious to know what the specific offence that you’d be charged with is.

AFAIK sudden or harsh braking of and by itself isnt an offence. It could be argued driving without due care and attention, or consideration for other road users etc (whatever the legal term might be) because I believe such is used to prosecute cash for crash scammers when caught at it, or so called brake checkers. But it’s not a black and white issue.

Of course, the powers that be could always introduce new laws to make it such. But were such cameras to operate in this country I’d expect to see a rash of defences like the driver saw a dog/child/cyclist etc coming rapidly from the side (out of shot of the camera) and braked suddenly because I thought they were going to rush out in front of me, your honour.

FFS what next.

Let’s just get everyone to go even slower. It’s bad enough as it is, people come up to a camera doing the speed limit and then brake to 5 or 10mph under the limit to go through the ■■■■ things. Oh look a 40mph speed limit camera oh I must slow down to 30 or 35mph to go through it. It’s not hard to go through a speed camera at its posted speed.

Woke make much difference though, there will eventually be average speed cameras everywhere, that’s the way to control people. Anyone who wants to get from a to b at the speed limit will be doomed to be stuck behind pensioners and incompetent drivers who can’t travel safely with flow of traffic and not impede the flow of the traffic.

Here’s an idea maybe we need more coppers on the roads!!

There tgo rob I’ve had a rant for you. [emoji23]

 Cheers for that Simon,.we could become a double act. :bulb:
I ain’t got a problem with average speed cameras over a distance, they actually do the job they are supposed to do,.keep traffic at a sensible pace and speed in that potential rta black spot.
I really do not think they make as much cash out of them, (still say that is the main agenda with any ‘safety’ occurring as a by product, or a secondary benefit, but that’s just me) as drivers know the score…if you see what I mean.

I hate flipping auto correct and sausage fingers. Really should read my posts through before pressing submit. Oh well maybe they will develop a speed camera for autocorrect. I’d be screwed.

The article i read yesterday said they were going to catch harsh breaking at speed cameras which “should” stop those that drive over the limit and then slamming on for the camera or as someone mentioned above the ones that are doing the limit and then slam on because they haven’t the intelligence to realize they are doing the limit.

Having said that quite clearly that is a by product of the agenda and begs the question of how will they distinguish between the moron that has slammed on and the ones that have had to brake because of the moron.

In the long run is all that will happen is the inept will slow down sooner.

those look alot like the ones used in france years ago ( prob different inside ) which were GROUND mounted funny thing was a lot of them dissapeared quite quickley so im led to belive

That’s correct and the French also used what looked like a grey tin (Baked bean size tin) that was mounted on a mobile tripod on the side of a motorway,it was portable and they would hide it very well.

They arent getting you for slowing down, they are getting you for breaking the law.The easiest way to deal with these things is to simply obey the speed limit. Then, like me ,you never have to worry about the cameras

Are you on a nightshift as been up since 2 am?

They would also…

Have two speed traps in a row. If you sussed out the first one, you might possibly hoof it up and then get caught by the second one less than 2 clicks away.

The French are really good at catching people speeding.

A lot of tourists are unaware about the fines for having a speed camera detector in their satellite navigation devices, i have seen reports of their vehicles being seized by the Gendarmerie.
