After having assement drives with afew different trainers Ill be booking a weeks training soon. Hopefully this time I will get a pass. The company i’ll be booking with are worlds apart from wergil gumage and his hill Billy band that I trained with at the end of last year.
Wow what a diffrents a new quality lorry makes when trying to learn. I thought all lorry gear boxes felt like a broom handle in a dust bin full of broken lumps of concrete ! But as you all know this is not so.
Found a new training company the other month and went for an assement drive, hadn’t driven a lorry in 3 months its a diffrent make and a slap over as aposed to a 4 over 4 witch I trained in befor. But I never messed up changing gear once from start to finish of the assment. I did’nt even need to think about the gear changes witch left my mind free to concentrate on the road. Brilliant !
The lorry i trained in last year I was still finding it a nightmere trying to find the cogs on my last day of training and on the test its self. I thought I was just crap at using a lorry gear box. But it was relly that the gear box on the lorry could’nt be more ■■■■■■. But then again the hole lorry was nakkard. I noticed when doing my walk around test the sump was covered in oil dripping all over the floor.
So after a great assement drive I’ve got some confidence back that I can pass this test. That’s the real trouble with bad trainers and nakard lorrys. Destroy yr confidace that you can’t get the hang of things. I was even dreading getting in the lorry by the end of the week because I just struggled so much to use the gear box. I was’nt free to read the road ahead.
I was left feeling relly low about things after the week of training and the fail at the end of it. It’s why I didn’t go for a retest straight away. And was reluctant to even look for other trainers as I began to think I’v made a relly big mistake thinking I could drive a
lorry and that I wasted so much time, money and effort all year long trying to acheave this thing just to find at the last hurdle I’m no good at it.
But with these great lorrys at this new place I found I’m looking forward to training again. Something I thought I would never feel again after the last time.
