New trailer.

Been driving this for the past couple of days. Makes a nice change from the usual. Very impressed with the performance. Trailer follows like a wagon and drag. No need to hog two lanes when making a left turn at a junction.

Do you not find that the tail swing is ridiculous though? I took a ‘small’ wall down in a tight space once with a rear steer… This thing wold be a nightmare in a tight space where you can’t see the rear end!

Not really, they don’t seem to swing out like the older models. Probably because the steering axle is set further back.

I’d like to see that being U turned at some of their delivery points.

They’ve thought of that already, lol. These trailers will only be going to 18 of the 50 odd we service from Bedford.

Do you mean the turntables?

I remember delivering to 1 somewhere in London, right nightmare to get to, then you drove into the yard, turntable turned you, then reversed onto bay, then back onto turntable, to get turned towards exit.

Or do you mean a U turn in the yards that also - storage for everything, pallets, trolleys, cages etc, when you start clipping them with the front corner of the trailer and just keep nudging them out of the way?

 Ah Ha! So that’s how it’s done eh! Often wondered how some got turned so easily under those circumstances.

Do they just let any driver take that trailer out or it’s only for the select few who are ‘trained’ to do so? Are your Asda units limited to 49mph or it’s just the driver who’s limited to 49mph

Yep, U turning inside the magic circle at some of the back doors, one U-ey with that monster and there’d be stacks of room afterwards… :smiling_imp:

i don’t see how that makes a difference. for the purpose of manoeuvrability and pivot points, think of the steering axle as not being there, rear steer is to save the tyres. to me the pivot point of that trailer is between the 1st and 2nd axles. i’d still be blocking lanes on tight turns to account for the big overhang.

It’s voluntary whether you pull them or not and training is provided.
The tractor units at Bedford are limited to 89kms. It’s up to the individual how fast you drive. However, fuel consumption is monitered so it’s advisable to drive at a reasonable speed.

The pivot point is the 2nd axle. I can see your point but I haven’t had any probs on tight turns yet.

^ This.
There’s no way of making extra length on a semi trailer or a rigid just dissapear. It’s either more cut in or it’s tail sweep one or the other. The best way of getting the right balance of extra length without too much cut in or sweep is to use an A frame type drawbar outfit pulling a longer 40-45 ft trailer.

I would love to see you turn that round at the chadderton store

Has Chadderton store changed isn’t that the one where you access it from in-between the terraced houses then reverse down the slope, no turning round necessary or didnt used to be■■? Miserable woman lives across the road and always complained when we parked up outside her windows!!! Be more of test to do Chapeltown!

Wasn’t allowed to reverse down slope when I went, had to turn it in warehouse, very very tight, chapeltown has a turntable.

Had heard a rumour back in 2005 that Chapeltown was getting a turntable but at Chad we definately reversed down into warehouse as underneath was always full to capacity with stock no room to swing a cat round in. Best tip was always Derby at least a 12 hour shift out of that due to at least 6 wagons always been parked up outside!!! Worst one in my opinion was Arnold reversing back up one way street into the darkness of the warehouse was always a challenge

Im sure reversing in got stopped by residents moaning.

There was an old dear over the road who moaned like hell when we used to sit outside her house blocking all light into her dining room with fridge running waiting for another 3 or 4 to tip, in end the deal there was tohave a drive round ascertain what was happening give the warehouse lads your moby number then park up over on the industrial units bit over otherside of main road. Best tip ever though I got to Doncaster Dome one to find 6 wagons and a butter/milk and bread wagon due. Gave lads my moby number parked up outside cinema there went in and watched Eragon, no call to mobile, went back in watched Beatrix Potter story, no call to mobile, went back in to watch Black Christmas came out at end to moby ringing asking me to go round got 15hours out of a Wakefield to Doncaster and back with a tip rubbish!!! Class work just could never get on with rota!!!
