New to the site!

Hi everyone

im a newbie and looking at taking my class 2 as soon as i can with a company local to me called L & T in west yorkshire, ive already found this site quite helpful as it states L & T are a recomended company in this area. Im currently a prison officer but the job is going totally in the wrong direction so im wanting to take my hgv, somthing i wanted to do a long time ago and never got around to it!

Anyone who is familiar with L & T who can shed any info would be greatly apreciated.

Thanks

Welcome Fanghead

Good luck with your training if someone recomended them bound to be someone here who trained with them , anyways good luck with it all and write a diary of your training always good to read others trials and tribulations !!!

best of luck

Hi Fang Head,

I couldn’t help noticing this:

Im currently a prison officer but the job is going totally in the wrong direction …

:open_mouth: Does that mean that there are more prisoners getting out than getting in? :grimacing:

  Have they tried closing the gates?

+1, then that feeling again when your handed a set off keys to something much bigger than what you learnt in and told to ■■■■ off and get on with it

I did my ADR with L&T about a month back.

Small family setup, good bunch of folk, and got through the ADR when I thought it was gonna be a right ■■■■ up.

A kid called ‘Malc’ did my training, not sure if he does the driving side as well, although there’s a video on their website of him fannying around with a gearbox.

Recommended by me!!

Hi did my class one and two with them a couple of years back in the mentiond daf   brill company very nice people good look…

thanks for the feedback, nice one, as soon as i can get the cash together ill get in touch with them

How hard is these days as a newly qualified driver to get work? is it easy enough to get on agency’s and what not?

Not easy
Many agencies require you to have as much as 2 years ‘experience’ which often means holding the licence for X amount of time … unless they get desperate of course

Some newbies have got full time permanent work within a few weeks as they have been in the right place at the right time or perhaps a local large haulier near to them has had a big recruitment drive for whatever reason

Some newbies have not managed to find any work in well over a year because they may not be in the right area of the UK or there are too many out of work experienced drivers for employers to choose from in that area

Plenty of posts in this forum which tell of all the above senarios

Thanks rog, plenty of time before I get my licence anyway. I’ll keep my eyes open on here its a good source of advice.
As a prison officer my shifts are all over the place so driving will be ok even if the hours are long, beats listening to cons moaning about there half chicken dinner on Xmas day!
