New to Scania bit of help needed

Afternoon all,

Been driving Volvo FH for about a year and theres been a few newer 73’s coming through so asked boss man if i can have one but seems im not in the hoover under his deck clan.

So ive got a 22 plate Scania R450 XT its not bad tbh comfortable but do notice the loss of 50 horses.

Anyway I need some help with the exhaust brake on the volvo I could turn eco off set cruise at 55 down a hill and it would sit at 56 no problem.

Is there anyway to do this in the Scania ive set it to auto on the stalk and it works with braking (the brakes are no way as good as the volvo) but on a downslope if i set the cruise control at any speed it just runs away so have to use the brakes all the time.

Is that what you have to do in these units or am i missing a setting or button somewhere.

It doesnt have adaptive just standard cruise.

Thanks

My previous Scania was the R500 XT. I set it for a 3mph cruise varience and it was quite happy to keep within the cruise speed range most of the time. Downhill and loaded tended to give the same result as your getting though on a medium/steeper downhill. Brakes just didn’t seem to slow it down to keep it in range. Unloaded it worked fine without problem and kept a consistent 55mph flat/uphill/downhill.

Thanks Welwyn,

How do you set the variance i can see it in green on the cruise speed display but can’t work out how to change it.

I guess your balls are flesh not made of gold then

Bottom of the steering wheel in the center you have 2 switches and a button. Left one is for increasing cruise control +/-, right one is the downhill speed control which will enable you to adjust the downhill varience. Middle button should be for adaptive cruise control which sits between them. Press 0 to disengage downhill cruise control and press the arrow to reangage at the previous set speed.

I’m presuming your set up will be the same as mine was.

I’m in a S540 now and there is no power mode, just Eco/Standard mode. There is no switch for downhill cruise adjustment. Mid lift instead of tag lift. I miss the XT.

Mine just as an exhaust brake that is pretty poor

This one only has cruise not the overspeed on the steering wheel there’s underspeed setting that ive adjusted.
Guess I’ll just have to get used to it but does seem a little bit aggressive on the brakes and I’ve not hauled much weight in it yet defo be interesting when im fully laden.

Scania tend to change to 12th gear earlier than I like when they are going up a hill and don’t like to change down early enough so you lose speed unless you manually change it yourself. It’s not a problem empty though, just when your heavy aound 33t and above in my experience.

I switch manually a lot, although if you don’t use steep hills much you probably won’t notice.
