Isn’t it depressing to see most of the equiptment you either drove or repaired in my case are now in museums ■■?
I think it’s depressing seeing youngsters in war zones with stuff that should be in a museum.

And never mention Peekaboo frilly curtains and cabs that look like a tarts boudoir or an Indian restaurant with red tassles.
I saw a Peekaboo approach a roundabout,i could see he had no vision and came to a halt at the roundabout then pulled his head forward to check the view.
Welcome and I have no idea of half of what you lot are talking about, ex Navy myself.
You will be just fine, if in doubt ask. The only stupid question is the one you don’t ask.
Peekaboo curtains are the ones that cover the view out of the drivers and passenger side window.
They can be velvet material with tassles hanging off the end. They are naff.
I,m lucky, half the workforce are ex-squaddies.
It,s easy money mate, I went the self-employed route, then agency, and now full time. £32-5k basic, its a joke to be honest, so, so easy.
Did the forces sort out the regulations knowledge and driver cpc stuff for you?
I would arrive at the class room at 17.00 on a Friday and finish at 22.30.
Up at 4am Saturday/Sunday to clean the block for inspection before class starts then a parade inspection.
Then drive the lorry early monday am after thre days training with the RAF.
At this time it was turn a blind eye then later they were clamping down on drivers and no weekly rests with MOD training.
It was regular two week training then back driving Monday…
Now you have to have time off prior to traing or after.
If Vosa stop you they can find out from the National Insurance number.Or a call to DWP to obtain how much you have earnt.

Their reply to that question would be what is Driver CPC
Thanks to all for the replies, beginning to get my head around it all, however…some questions! (Don’t laugh!)
Whats with the ZB i keep seeing on various posts? What is zb?
Any advice as to what to carry at all times in the wagon (Am agency at the moment) as have been given a few wagons for the shift that are, to be polite, [zb] tips!

Welcome to civvy street Darktower, bloody crab airThere is no way that you’ll be able to avoid annoying some drivers.
If you get on with the job to get it done, get paid n get home, you’ll annoy some because they think you should be swinging the lead to spin the job out as long as possible.

Good pubs around there though, the Roebuck and the White Horse, or our own personal ferry (LSL) over the water to Southampton for a messy Saturday night

Bullies Bar is Bullies because Bully sponsored it in the early days.
We are TruckNetUK because TruckNet is the American site and UK was a forum on it until Rikki convinced them a UK site was feasible. Rikki was the UK/European forum moderator on the American site. He is the man who made this site possible.

We don’t allow letter substitution either. Type whatever you like, do not use stars or miss spellings to get round our autocensor. If it’s not allowed, the autocensor will substitute zb. If the autocensor doesn’t catch it due to ‘miss spelling’, a moderator will.
Darktower…what do you take…well smelly’s, quick spray around the cab kills the nasties…Mr Muscle and a roll of paper for cleaning surfaces, windows, mirrors, rear lights in bad weather
…and maybe a brush to sweep the cab out. . Pair of gloves, keep your hands clean. Usual H&S junk and if you carry the makings for a brew you should survive the day and of course
reading material or something to while away the time you might spend waiting.Trust this lot helps should be enough for daywork.

Think i got most of that already, including 2 X 24Hr Rat paks! Was thinking more along the lines of spare tacho rolls, various paperwork for the load etc. Seem to be sent out with, amongst others, no paperwork for load, no Dangerous Goods paperwork (apart from DHL who seem to be on the ball!) no drivers pack ie: contact No’s, breakdown procedures etc. Anything VOSA might be keen to see/inspect! Or am i being militarily sensible?

Short, sharp and to the point! Thanks!
Darktower:
Hi all, just recently joined this site as was recommended by a friend. Just left the Armed Forces (Was a Vehicle Specialsit/Driver) and looking up on how not to annoy other drivers! Been working agency the past couple of months and still trying to get my head round the civvy attitudes and working practices!! Did my test many moons ago in an Antar (anyone remember them?) and basically looking for advice on working in the industry, as I’m sure you can all understand, its slightly different from the Army!
Firstly welcome here, I’m a new member too…also a big thanks for service to Queen and country…it is appreciated and very under rated/stated in my book. I’ve got many friends in the forces and I think all you guys do a fantastic job.
You asked how to annoy other drivers…well…get a Scania jacket a 500bhp V8 badge (if youre lucky enough to be driving one) and tell them all how many little hours you do for £1,000 a week, (5 days of course). To add to this you must say you love your job and you have a 21 year old 44 DD Swedish nymphomaniac waiting for you to return to the cab every night. If you cant be bothered with the above just make it up as you go along… Only jesting, hope it all goes well for you, I’m sure it will as many forces lads have a great work ethic.
