will this mean all the tachographs i have for december 2007 i have to keep for
28 day and the current week
and i have been told tachographs must me returned by 42 days.

Throughout January, you have to be carrying tachos for the current day and the previous 28 days. Therefore, you could be carrying tachos from December up until Jan 29th.
