I cannot speak from experience but as far as I’m aware the data from the old tachograph will not be transferred to the new one, I’ve no idea whether or not the tachograph centre downloads the data from the old tachograph though.
The new tachograph will need to be registered to your company with the company card.
I wont lose any sleep over it , it was just i.ve never had to physically pay for a new one before and wasnt sure what the procedure was , company cards locked out of the old one so just lock myself back into the new one and away i go, looking forward to all these minutes im going to save now compared to the old one that rounded everything up, i swear somedays it actually recorded more minutes than i.d even been at work
If you’re expecting to save a lot of driving time I assume you’re changing from a type 1 to the latest model ?

Thats correct
The tacho centre will download your old head…They should ,but probably won’t .mail you informing you that they have digital information that belongs to yourself.
We use the Stoneridge kit and it has a tacho swap app …So you plug it in ,it then extracts the tacho settings ,in to the tacho tool ,and you then plug it in to the new tacho and send the old units settings to the new tacho…it will then get a complete calibration
I don’t know if it transfers you driving records over ,as to be honest im just interested in setting the tacho up …but I doubt it does hence the old unit needs downloading and you to be informed
You info which we can’t read will be on their PC …This is the problem bit …workshops don’t have usb sticks to put your info on and send to you …So you are better just turning up and getting them to put it on your own usb device …What some workshops do which is illegal …Is to fill out an undownloadability report …Which no doubt some operators will love,as technically anything illegal on the tacho is lost forever…Though DVSA are aware of this and workshops have got into trouble ,as some shady operators renewed tachos and they where all done as undownlaodable …which set alarm bells off with the DVSA
