One of my subbies had his new Iveco come home today.
I’ve certainly never seen a second tank like this… Is it genius or just odd ?

Hi TB good idea if going abroad and filling up with cheaper fuel but we had big tanks put on our frigo’s but had to alter them to smaller one’s as it took us into hazchem complications and we got fined so best check the detail on amounts of fuel carried especially when they combine tractor and trailer capacity when doing calculations, this can prove costly if not observed, cheers Buzzer.
Hope it has good protection against blow outs on the rear axle.

My thoughts exactly Trev, I know the damage that a blowout does to steel wings etc!
Pete.
What amazed me is that it’s a factory fit option. Just a hard plastic tank strapped onto the back of the chassis.
It even has the eu / type approval stamp on it… I took the photo as it seems extremely dodgy to me…
Especially as its a Iveco design…
There was a unit with one of those on the iveco stand at the NEC show in April. Not actually all that big when I asked seem to think he said about 250 litres, so on a 6x2 you still wouldn’t be anywhere near ADR. My thought at the time was it would be ideal as a hydraulic tank.

Yes your correct, holds about 250 lts, and can be turned on or off when needed, bit like an old fashioned top tank really. I’m just not sure if it’s such a good idea or not…
In the days of “cherry b” would have been a leap forward
but can’t see it being a viable option these days, perhaps a bit more hassle than it’s worth ?
Not sure, hence I put it on here…
Don’t the euro 6 engines need a lot more exhaust space for all the magic tricks they perform on the gases. As the exhaust takes more space they need alternatives to keep reducing the size of the tank. Looks like a good idea to me.
