Scarab:
It’s one thing that really lets most fleet motors down in my opinion.
You are spending £60k - £90k on a motor and they give you a face full of plastic? the boss gets no more discount for it, it’s just profit going in the manufacturers pocket when they can charge you the extra £6k for getting rid of the horrible tacky stuff.
All the fairings, grill, arches will be plastic, the only difference is whether its painted or not. I’m guessing some operators will question the point if its going to be knocked about a bit
it seems thetve actually got more money ,our g-380,s seem to be being replaced by r-440,s slowly, mind they had to as now more seem to be going tramping they had to replace the g-cabs as there not big enough to tramp in.
I like the look of the new Merc, very striking looking machine. I would think all the plastic is probably pedestrian safety laws or similar. Not seen any stobarts ones yet…

Where do you get that from?
I’ve spent this week in a 60 plate Merc Actros, and the auto-box has been a real joy to use, I put it up there with the I-shift.
I hate the cup holders in the Actros, and in the 60 plate, didn’t like the drivers window blind, it kept going up by itself, stupid design, and some of the button placements could be MUCH better, and the stereo has an aux in (3.5mm) socket, but it’s above the windscreen
Hopefully the new ones will have improvements, could easily make a perfect truck

I have to disagree. I would say that MAN is Hitlers Revenge.
I find your comments ref MAN`s very surprising , there are some big well known operators ( Mitchell of Grangemouth , Carefoot of Preston , ) out there who continue to operate and buy this make of truck .

Did you know, that you can move the switches in an Actros to a place that suits you better. There are no wires on the actual switch because the switch only sends a signal down to the canbus control . Sounds technical but its easy.

No, I didn’t know that, but I’m in a different truck every week, can’t go moving switches around, might ■■■■ people off. Just some of the placements seem really daft to me.

Thing is though I imagine a lot of big fleets prefer the grey plastic bumpers simply because they don’t show up marks and scratches so badly
Also easier to repair the commonly damaged bumper area, buy the part and fit it, vehicle back on rd quicker than waiting for parts to be painted. No extra cost for paint and labour either.
