New Special trailers

This is one of our many new truck and trailer combinations we have just purchased to cover the on going Mangonese Contract from Hotasell to Port Elizabeth, each truck will be fitted with our specialised containers x 2 which in turn will be loaded with 35 tons of manganese each. Total cargo weight 70 tons excluding the weight of the containers, we have a special road permit for this and MAN South Africa say their trucks can handle it, Lets see, rght now this contract is pulling our trucks and tearing our trailers apart , literally.

Wouldn’t mind having a go with that set up myself. I had to take a container to be weighed last year, the scales only went up to 50 ton so couldn’t get an accurate weight but the MAN 440 pulled it easily. Didn’t go up any hills though.

I dont believe those little man`s would pull 70 tons without a struggle, they should have gone for the bigger engined one.

Why Trucky? I had 2 DAF’s one a 400 that coped with 80 tonne easily, and a 430 that coped with 150 tonne with ease, the engine size means little , what makes the difference is how that power is translated to the drive wheels, its all about the gearing - many of the real heavy hauliers were only 325 ■■■■■■■ powered but did OK at 250 tonne - just didn’t go anywhere very fast but at those weights you wouldn’t want to

To me Daf are seriously over rated on horse power ,I’ve done a bit on 400 ati it really should of been rated at 350 ,also we have a 440 ■■■■■■■ which goes faster up a long drag at 26 tonne gross than the 480 daf empty at 14 tonnes .

Yeah Rikki your right it is to do with the gearing, i was just thinking of a little CF daf coping with 70 tons. I know you have vast experience of heavy haulage with the CAT of which i know very little so i`m gonna go with you on this one and eat humble pie

What a thoroughly ■■■■ trailer.

you wouldn’t want to drop one on it’s knees…

Used to take that stuff from Rotherham to Porto Marghera near Venice, god that was heavy stuff in little kegs two or three rows down the middle of the trailer 20 ton, didn’t move an inch.

Couple of more Pics. 1 x Super-link loading for Likasi in the DRC and the other one ready to leave for Lumbumbashi, both running a 6m and 12m combination carrying 34 tons each. 1 maize and the other refractory bricks.

So exotic…

Is that a B train set up?? Not clear on my phone.
