Was driving the new scania today was only half a shift. The looks have grown on me and they dont look as bad in the flesh.I drove the tag axle and it was very nice did not feel like it was a tag axle.It was the demo had all the toys on it but i tryed to find out the price but nobody was letting it slip.
If anyone gets a chance to get a go of the demo take it its a totally diffrent drive from the current R series units.
We’ve got a S450 at our place at the moment top spec tag axle have’nt driven it but looked inside and it seemed alright, but thought the under bunk fridge looked a bit flimsy and the bed was a light grey colour which would look grubby very quickly.

Is that they grey one in Bellshill?
Saw it earlier in the week and I have to say I liked the look of it in the flesh after having my doubts with the photos.

Colin_scottish a friend of mine has a new S730 twin wheel tag (same spec as my Fh) being delivered in February. 5 years warranty and 3 years servicing for ( sit down and put your cup of tea down) £160,000
Couple of question for you please Colin if you don’t mind.
Presumably it was auto box, is it improved it in any way, still a slow change standard box or have they fitted a twin clutch box with instant changes?
Is the exhaust brake still useful to make a nice sound but of little practical use, or have they fitted a competent Volvo style retarder now?
The exhaust brake/retarder on a Scania has always been a matter of spec - I havent seen a Scania without a retarder for years, as they always come from factory with it around here. The exact opposite goes for Volvo.

The exhaust brake would be standard fitment on uk R Series but the retarder is a £2500 extra on most, I would hazard a guess it comes standard with some of the higher spec V8s, to my mind there is no comparison between even the best exhaust/engine brake and a retarder when it gets proper hilly.

Thankyou for any info.
It was an auto and the changers were alot quicker tryed to confuse it but did not happen.
The exhaust brake was the same as the big v8s not on the floor but on the gear stock up pull it down to were you want it.When empty and you put it on full you know its working i nearly hit the windscreen

Many thanks for that, tbh the looks of it don’t matter one jot to me, just hoping, should i get one, that the gearchange has improved and the exhauster does more than make a noise, it appears both are better.
