£300,000 each and they are only building 8 at the mo…

The £1.3m comes from a development cost of £10m and they’ve only made 8.
I assume London will have more than 8 in total, maybe to design and build a bus like this TFL have had to pay for the development cost and hope to recoup that in future sales.

Apparently it was broke down on the m1 near luton this morning.
Hope it works out looks stylish and 10 million doesnt seem bad to devolp a new vehicle

New London Routemaster bus runs out of fuel on M1

Seen a few of them about the town (Ballymena) as they make them up the road. Must be the only town you can see those london busses, first busses and them bendy things that went to las vegas. Spotters paradise

Another free bus.
Looking foward to driving one though.

I dont think it ran out of fuel as seen this southbound on the M1 this morning on the hard shoulder around 9am and then a while later it was northbound around the same area on the hard shoulder and the driver looking down at the dash so unless it ran out of fuel twice which would be highly unlikely

Well, yes. You just need a bus and put another on top of it,some stairs and static, for safesty,Stability and brakes,Suspension, steering ect, ect,…
10 mil not expensiv for that, but i would expect a one hundret or two,but not just “8” :grimacing:

The old type bus was best when one could jump off closer to ones stop ,or if you nearly missed it one could run along and grab the handle to get on the platform…ho those were the days.

i prefered it to that awful cola truck ,now seen both of them ,my preference is definatley to the bus

I still don’t understand why it costs 10 MILLION quid to design a bus? How many people were involved in the design process■■? Surly using an off the shelf engine/gearbox/chassis etc means someone else has already paid to test those parts lol. You just need to design the body. Surely not to difficult these days?

Vehicle development is expensive, why do you think so many car manufacturers share floor plans and engines, and they can spread the cost across thousands of vehicles.
I believe the bus has a new hybrid engine and no doubt would have had to pass a raft of safety tests. Of course if they have built something that will last decades and the cost get’s spread over hundreds or even thousands of busses. Then the devlopment cost will not make up such a large part of the cost of the vehicle.

You do realise that in today’s world £10 million is nothing. We’re not in 1971. I think £10m for a new and exciting bus design is something of a bargain.

here here Switchlogic, part of the original tender process was to be able to show they are able to make 600 buses over 3 years. so 16.6 grand development cost per bus is cheap.
