As i haven’t had a good debate lately thought is was time

Q1 If your a driver of 7.5 ton truck working under EU rules, how many hours can you drive in a fixed week - 56hours

Q2 When does the fixed week start under EU rules - 00.00 Monday

Q3 Your driving a truck from Aberdeen to London, but on you way you’ve come across an accident, and the traffic is crawling along, you take you break at the end of the accident at the nearest stopping place and realise you’ve gone over your drive time by 15 minutes, the truck your driving is a digital tachograph one, what is the process you’d have to follow to explain the extra drive time. Take a printout, write a short explanation for the reason. and you could sign it.

Q4 Under the Road Transport Directive what is the minimum break required at 8 hours 59 minutes work with only 4 hours driving that shift, and when does the first break have to be taken, and what is the minimum break required, and if another break is required how long and when would that be required to be taken? - 15 minutes at or before 6 hours, followed by another 15 before 9 hours

Q5 Digital Tachographs, what do you have to do if you have a faulty driver card in regards to day to day driving while your card is returned - Take a printout at the beginning and end of the driving shift and you must sign it

Q6 On week one you drove 45 hours on week two you drove 26 hours how many hours can you drive in week three if you need 47 for week four - 43 hours

Q7 On Monday you start work at 6am, when can you work till if you have a rest of over 24 hours on Thursday and start at 6am Friday - If you also worked Sat & Sun you can work until Wednesday.

Q7 If you look at Q7 on Friday, how many driving hours would you have left in the week if you did 10 Monday 10 Tuesday 9 Wednesday, and how many more 10 hour drives have you left or can you do.

Q8 You have a job in which you pick a load up and take it to point B form point A it takes you 13 hours with breaks to do this, how many time under EU rules, also consider the RTD, can you do this after a 45 hour weekly rest, Note: You do 3 hours other work a day and drive 8 hours the rest of the time is waiting or on break, and always start at 6am, your in week 10 of your reference period of a 17 week one and your doing you average. - 4 times

Q9 You live and work in Bosnia and Herzegovina and are coming to the UK to deliver goods, what regulations would you be driving under - AETR

Q10 You start a new job on Thursday and have to run to London from Leeds and the truck your driving as a digital tachograph, it takes you 4 hours to get there and 4 hours back, how much break is required for that journey if you took a break of 17 minutes on the first leg. - 30 minutes

  3. Take 24hr activity printout from either driver card or VU record and write on printout the reason for departure from EU drivers hrs Reg. Retain printout for at least 29 days then within 42 days of making printout return to Transport Undertaking under whose orders you were driving vehicle on that day . Printout to be made as soon as you reach suitable parking location.
  4. a) none, unless this is then end of the shift or 6 hours or more since last break ended. b) before work exceeds 6 hours. c) 15 minutes. d) 15 minutes before work ends.
  5. At the start of your shift take a 24hr activity printout from the VU write on the printout your full name and either you driver card number or your driver licence number and sign printout. Use mode switch on VU to record your activity during shift (apart from driving, selected automatically by VU). At the end of shift take another VU 24 hour activity printout and record details as per start of shift printout. If you change vehicle during a shift you have to do this in each vehicle you drive. If shift finishes after midnight you will need to do 2 printouts at end of shift; one to cover shift start to 24:00 on starting day, one to cover 00:00 to shift end on finishing day. . Keep printouts for at least 29 days and return within 42 days. Carry plenty of spare paper, you’ll need it!!

    1. Cannot drive any more 10’s in week one, but could drive two 10’s in week 2.
