New pass - Sold a lie from the government

Outside of London, the buses don’t pay that well though do they?
I’ve been a bus driver and earn more money driving trucks, that’s why I jumped ship.

What does the OP mean, start at tea time but not do
night work? I’m not sure I understand that correctly.

There are companies that will take on newly qualified drivers. If not class 1 could you do class 2 to gain experience?

Hi all. Newbie to the forums here. So it seems i was sold a lie by the UK government. I went in for my class 1 hoping for a change in jobs but all the jobs i have been applying for aren’t interested unless I have experience. But how do you get experience if nobody will take you on. I am quite specific in what I need so maybe that is the issue? I want to start at tea time(ish) but I don’t want tramping. I think most work for me would be trunking? Anyway if anybody knows of any companies in West Yorkshire that take on new passes for an evening shift then please could you point me in the right direction. I have held a bus license for 11 years but i don’t think that will count for anything will it? Thanks in advance.

Try Sainsbury’s at Sherburn-In-Elmet, they’ve been taking on new passes the last few months

And their agency is H&G if you fancy the agency route [emoji106]

You wasn’t sold a lie you just didn’t do any research apart from looking at the top line wages . As for the bus licence it won’t count for anything if you don’t tell them……

David bratt and sons . Yard out of cas . They’d let you start tomorrow they are that desperate

I passed my class 2 on 25th Feb.

I found myself in a similar situation. Plenty of fishing but no bites. To make it more difficult I also have a criminal conviction.

I felt a bit deflated by the lack of responses to my applications so I signed up to an agency who put me in touch with a kitchen company. 13 week temp to perm, some nights out but salary on offer was 26k for 45hours.

I was thinking salary was low, but then luckily one of the adverts I had applied for did get back to me (one of the brakes subsidiary companies). Their advert did say experience required but I applied anyways. Arranged an interview/driving assessment as was offered the job on the spot. I must have been the last one on their pile.

I start on Monday and salary is 31k. New pass, straight into a permanent position. However the job is a graft with early starts so they must not have had many applications. But it’s a start.

Keep trying and good luck.

It’s something i’ve always fancied doing. I love driving. To me happiness is more valuable than money.

You’re a few decades too late unfortunately. The government wants to take as many trucks and as much freight off the roads as possible.
While even when the industry was at its peak getting the best work was always a lottery.
I’m happier driving cars around the country now than many of the crap jobs out there I did driving trucks.

He never said about Nightshift, said he didn’t want tramping.

Hi all. Just an update. DHL contacted me today to go for an interview. Fingers crossed. Thanks for all the advice given it has all been taken on board.

DHL arn’t the best payers, and if it’s Tesco work you’ll earn your money ■■■■■■■ cages around doing store deliveries

Will you give it a ■■■■■■■ rest

Plenty of people, including myself, have actually gone on to achieve everything they’ve wanted to and more from the industry.

Don’t be bitter and try and ■■■■ on someone else’s chips because you’re a failure who lacked any gumption who didnt even have enough about them to demonstrate to any company at even the height of UK/Continent work that you should be trusted to do anything other than the ■■■■ you ended up doing.

Hard to say when you want teatime / evening shift, knowing the hours worked in the transport industry being realistic that is more than likely going to run into night shift working ie 16.00 to 04.00

Dont get too disillusioned too quickly with your searching, you will get something to suit your hours. My best advice to you at the moment and it has been echoed on here. Join multiple agencies and tell them exactly what you are looking for. They will be able to offer you something along the lines and although may not be exactly a match and they will not be able to gaurantee a continuity of work, in my experience this is better for you to gain valuable experience needed that will quickly enable you to hone in on what you want. Also be prepared to do class 2 work to get your feet under the table. By being flexible now will not only get you enough work but will also enable you to be less flexible in a short period,. 6 months of being flexible now is a realistic target to get you nearer to your expectations.

Don’t tell me, you also want to be finished by 10pm so you can be read the kids bedtime stories

When I worked for dx/ night freight , we started 17.30 & were done by 23/23.30, Grantham - Heywood distribution , Grantham - Gloucester ( downtowns yard ) , Grantham - Basildon, all tri changes
So the job the lad wants is out there , though depends if he will have a 15 min break dropping tri , 30 min whilst picking it up !! , & if he’s one of those for doing the speed limits would of probably been midnight when he got back !!

DX offered me a job but they said i will be contracted to 48 hours and i wont be paid anything for going over, but everyone said you do 60 hour weeks,

I work in the offices now i don’t drive buses full time. Also Sherburn is nearly 40 miles away, I really don’t want an 80 mile commute. Thanks though

Actually I didn’t look at any wages I just thought I would be able to get a job out of it, due to the “shortage”. Money doesn’t faze me too many people think money is the be all and end all. I’m taking a pay cut to work on the wagons.

That’s the kind of shift I am wanting something that doesn’t finish to late in the morning that it screws your next day up. I could still get up at 10am and have the whole day to my self. I don’t want what i call ■■■■■■■■ nights when you’re finishing at 8am-10am because that just messes with your body clock and only certain people can do them.

PalletGraft Ltd have you covered mate.

Look on the bright side:- if someone as lazy as Carryfast can get a job behind the wheel anyone can, & if you are willing to progress & learn new skills you could be doing Euro Work in no time at all.
BUT if you are as lazy and demanding as CF you could be looking at a future of council wagons & dustcarts :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:
