Never bought a satnav before but looking at a snooper s8000. Seen they are £400 new from snooper plus postage. Also seen a second hand new one (new being sold by a private individual) for £320 posted with 12 months warranty still.
Is it best to spend the extra on a new one or save myself £80 on the second hand one?
Depends on where the second hand one is from and the reputation of the seller.
The warranty will start from the day it was first sold by the retailer. If the person selling it second hand has only just bought it, then fine. If he has had it sat around for a while, then you won’t be getting the full warranty. Make sure to pay via PayPal or some other service offering buyer protection (not bank transfer, cheque, etc), so that if it doesn’t arrive or is not as described you can get your money back.
Excellent product though the Snoopers are. My S7000 does a fantastic job of getting me all over Europe.
That 12 month warranty on the second hand unit may be worthless as many manufacturers’ warranties only cover the original purchaser. None of the protection afforded by consumer protection legislation applies to private sales.
In all probability of course you’ll not have any problems with it and can enjoy the £80 saving. So I suppose the question you have to ask yourself is “Do I feel lucky? Well, punk - do ya?”.
