New or Old?

I like the sound of a time machine, depending on the exhaust…

Hi all, defo the one in my avatar picture

Old for work or play, no question, it’d be what I already have down the yard awaiting some refurbing.

Modern for work, it’d be another Volvo but an FH16 750 4x2, see a pattern forming?

White road commander for fun for work MAN 30 331 8 wheel tipper.

Actually I reckon the 30-331 would probably be more fan than the Italian supercars I mentioned earlier, looking back, I had more fun belting round the South Peculiar in an 8 wheel tipper than I could ever have in a car…with my clothes on anyway

I had a 291 and a 331 and even though they were old and unloved by the time I got them they were good tools was gutted when the 331 got impounded for a tank full of cherry.
Tipper game certainly more fun than haulage and more profitable as far as I can see!!!

The 331 was a flying machine, I had a day messing around in a quarry with a 33-403 when I did a Tip-In for TRUCK mag, it was crap, the old MAN 8 wheelers would go anywhere, the newer ones turned into a submarine as soon as it got sticky :unamused:

Inbetweener for Me, this was a Tonka Toy & earned me some money…

A stripped down tilt?

Scammell Routeman mk.2 with Anthony Carrimore insulated body all painted in Tarmac’s original colour scheme.

Would cost a bit putting that together!

I had a 343 and a 364 f90 I thought they were ok off road but could be heavy on springs and the five pot wouldn’t pull your ■■■■■■■■ back. But very stable for a tipper chasis you could put one up at very dodgy angles and get away with it.

It was a tilt Ross built very low with twist locks, it was ex Russanglia & a ■■■■ fine thing it was too, I had it refurbed at that gaff on Kirkby Ind Est, poor paint job but the back door frame & headboard where detachable & it worked well, I’ve still got the Tilt Tech body & an Intersped Sheet & a Russanglia one too.

That FH was the best of both worlds old & new, great 460 engine no gizmo’s fitted not even a sunroof & riding on parabolic springs, hub reduction, hydraulic lift, the A-ride Volvo IMO was the finest chassis totally unbreakable, the trailer too was as good as they get too proper planked floor, carriers, 4 boxes, 2000lt belly tank, all piped up for towing with a great towing hitch on a reinforced back end
Gilder knows His stuff when building kit for a job I’ll give him that, 20t empty though.
