Has anyone else noticed the new narrow trucks being used on the A14 ? There I was queuing through the road works westbound on the A14 Kettering this evening when I spotted 3 in a line using the 6ft 6 lane, one a Scania with a container on, a Chris Riches FH sunbed with a TNT narrow trailer and another TNT with a Mercedes hacksaw on the front, so three different manufacturers with the special Swiss inspired narrow gauge truck combination, at least they will ride above the deep ruts you get on the motorway lanes.
Cormar carpets have them in W&D format run by wincanski Portbury had one come up past M5 Jn 24 not only that it has that special hide and seek paint on it that allows it to go flat out through the Roadworks with a 50 limit
I’m sure the name of the driver was written on the back in dirt
I said [zb] I’m sure that’s what it said
Yes daf appear to have a narrow truck gauge, saw a royal mail in the 6ft 6 lane down here in somerset, although it must be faulty because he was struggling to keep it out of lane 3.
There are loads of them on the A14 roadworks at Cambridge, not unusual to be overtaken by 4 or 5 there. (both ways)
There are several lightweight 40 footers that use the A14 too. They must be cos they overtook me using the 7.5 tonne restricted lane during the signposted operating hours. To name and shame a few…Maritime, ES & Longs Of Leeds were the biggest names who were guilty!
I see Stobart are trialling an even narrower and lighter version of truck, saw one fly past a load of cars in lane 3 of the M1 roadworks last week - on the limiter too.
I bet they are worth a fortune
Don’t understand why some drivers get so excited when they see another truck in lane three.
Oh it’s because it’s not allowed.
And we all know that truck drivers breaking the law is a very uncommon thing…
There are even signs along the bit by Kettering saying that the width restriction is being enforced. Bosses must love these drivers who break the law to get the job done quicker.
Being fair on the timed weight limit on the A14, if you are overtaking a truck at the wrong time, usually an Argos or Morrisons double decker, the slower vehicle can obscure the sign. I have been caught out like that before but as soon as I know I’m in the wrong, i get back into the right.

Going Eastbound on Wednesday stuck behind a car doing 15mph so she was overtaken by every truck behind her… after i made the move to overtake.

They are still out there!
They have been around a while longer then I realised, that appears to be 10 reg, so 4 years of trails for Mercedes.
Yeah I see a lot of this on the a14. Don’t think I’ve seen any kind of enforcement on the 7.5t lanes. How do you stand if a tractor is using lane 1?! But there are signs in the roadworks saying HGV use lane 1 - enforcement ahead, unless it is to try to trick HGV drivers into thinking thry have lane cameras when really they are referring to speed cameras!

I don’t care about them being in lane 3, especialy if I’m in lane 1.
The bug bear is as kindle mentioned, when its narrow lanes and your mirror are in the firing line off one off these cowboys, because they all have dodgy tachos that appear to show 50mph whilst they carve through at 60 or so mph
Though at Kettering let them get on with it, well away from me west bound
A1 south at Catterick last night, a hero in a Roadways Container Logistics merc was in the width-restricted L2 overtaking everything. The prick squeezed past me but got his comeuppance when he tried the same thing trying to pass a Culina. The inevitable happened with lots of Merc mirror and plastic all over L1 and the prick pulled off at the bottom Catterick slip to inspect the damage.
Weapons-grade bellend!!
ThrustMaster:
