New motors for Ray White

DannyDC2:
New shiny trucks, does that mean you need new shiny drivers also

Hopefully yes.

What is it with people on here? If a company buys fleet spec trucks with no fridge or microwave they are tight fisted but then you get a guy like Ray White that tries to look after his drivers with a few home comforts in a high spec motor it’s automatically “all flash no cash” ,maybe he’s just a good boss that looks after and values good staff

I don’t know the first thing about Mr White, but I’ll explain where I’ve been coming from on this, (for benefit of Mr Flat out) just to put it to bed.

I just find it amusing (and slightly embarrasing  ) how some grown men behave like sychophantic teenagers on the old thread and this, it’s like kids writing fan mail to their favourite pop star ffs, it’s a bit cringeworthy tbh guys. :unamused:
And THAT is where the ’ Victor’ bit comes from :bulb: , as Mr W used to call me ‘Victor Meldrew’ on the old thread.

Having said that, (and I’m not being influenced or converted by his TNUK fan club here btw  ) …
Maybe, and presumably he is a good employer who supplies decent kit for his drivers and pays them well for their service.
This is EXACTLY what the haulage industry needs, and if it IS accurate, it’s a breath of fresh air in an arena full of stinking [zb], so good on him, I’d be the first to say that.
I used to work for a guy just like that for 10 yrs, so I know what that entails, involves, and the loyalty and conscientiousness it reciprocates from proper drivers (like myself :sunglasses:   )

On the other hand you can see where the negativity you mention comes from, many firms are like as you describe, supplying naive and thick d/heads with a Scania with Kelsas and Hellas, whilst paying them peanuts, which makes a mockery of the industry.

Right …could Mr White please send me a signed photo for my bedroom.   .

…and you sum it up perfectly , you know sfa about the guys but carry on spouting nonsense just for the sake of it . I knew Ray 30 odd years ago , hard working owner driver who’s done well over time , built a good business , and could easily sit back and enjoy life but he’s still content to get "the job done "when needs must . You might find that its Pete not Ray that posts on here so I doubt you’ll be adorning your bedroom wall too soon , never mind

I see TNUK hasn’t changed much since I’ve been away [emoji23]

I wondered if something happened to you and glad to hear it is only the RDC style conversations and the prevailing lousy attitudes that has kept you away.

Congratulations on the new arrivals and very best of luck with them especially at the moment with all this Brexit crash out talk.

I’m interested in the selection of 6 wheelers for I assume Euro work (40t max in places or can you run heavier where you go) and the best fuel tank capacity you can get with them?

I would be very interested in your thoughts on Volvo vs Scania vs The Rest some time as you seem to known them all quiet well over the years.

I assume you are running at 4m which seems a challenge in UK supplied trucks (thicker chassis, bigger springs, I have no idea).

All queries and comments are to advance my knowledge and not to question yours BTW.

However as has been mentioned already would one give any thought to modernising the trailer livery to match the the fine new motors? Could still leave one fridge as is and paint one new tractor unit in “Retro” style to match as seems to be a fashion with some airlines these days.

Continued success and best wishes.

Rob, whatever about some other newbie’s on here I know that you know real well that you don’t have to be in a fancy motor to have bad money and conditions and in fact it is usually the other way round where crap machinery and crap work and crap pay seem to go together.

The theory that a fancy motor means bad pay is based on 90% jealousy and 10% ignorance as there is no such link or economic rule.

Strangely I don’t hear nearly as much criticism of the owners and drivers of shabby gear who we know for a fact are on poor pay.

I know you don’t mean bad but let’s nor hijack this thread with the usual lines of BS cos they are Volvos in that photograph not Scanias …easy mistake though…

Just ask any of my drivers if you see them…

If they drive a shiny truck for a poor wage & How they get treated.

They will give you an honest answer.

Recently Ray Flew to Bergamo Italy as a driver was maxed out on fortnightly driving hours and needed to be home. Ray drove the truck back and the driver Flew home. We obviously covered the cost of everything.

And yes this is Pete, Ray is too old for this s***

Don’t forget…

To give the driver who’s been flying, a covering letter to explain the difference in country start/finish. It cost Continental Express (all those years ago) 2000e and parked up until it was paid cash because the Spanish didn’t like the obvious but un-documented fact that my second driver had been flown into Gibraltar to drive back with me. Passport stamp wasn’t good enough and no amount of obvious and fact laden paperwork would convince them.

I’ve met your blokes before, they’re a good bunch of lads and they weren’t moaning about wages.

I think he said before something about customers ‘overloading’ the 4x2 so moved to 6x2 even though 4x2 looks better :sunglasses: .

I’ve already explained clearly (or so I thought :unamused: ) that my comments were tongue in cheek and that I was carrying on a bit of a gag after WWW had christened me Victor Meldrew last time on the other thread…Which bit of that do you not get??

Rather than selectively concentrate on the parts of my post and cherry pick bits that allows you to be ‘‘offended by proxy’’ :unamused: (far too much of that nowadays in this pc country :bulb: ) read the bit where I said about congratulating WWW for treating his drivers fairly and paying them well…I.have to say ‘‘allegedly’’ because as you rightly reiterate (if only to fit your agenda :unamused: )…I know quote ‘’ sfa about him’’ .

Are you also choosing to be offended by me taking the ■■■■ out of the sychophantic admiration by some on here, or are you saving that one for another day■■?

Jeez H Christ :unamused: what happened to the days when you could have a bit of banter and a laugh on here, like I said Lighten up and read the ■■■■ posts properly before jumping in with both feet

That’s right you don’t, but we both know that it does go on that some employers can and will get away with speccing up their motors as an alternative to paying proper money.
(I feel the need to say I am NOT referring to White’s here, to prevent a further ■■■■ storm from a certain offended member :unamused: )

There was a Jock outfit MD on here a few years ago threatening us and crying his ■■■■ eyes out after a few were knocking his outfit for allegedlly doing just that. :bulb: …we all know who that was.

You’re right also mate about the rough arsed motors with badly paid drivers, but that was not what the thread was about, it was more about guys on here creaming their kecks over (as you rightly point out to me  ) Volvos, so that was my point, but I’m at the stage where as long as I have a well specced interior cab that is clean and comfortable, I couldn’t give a toss even if it had ■■■■ HINO on the front of it.
Btw I wasn’t having a pop at newbies either as you said.

I like banter. Lightens the mood. I have a laugh and a joke with all my drivers, but they all know what is expected of them. As long as the job gets done properly why can’t you have a laugh along the way.

right im off to boil some more eggs

Often we get posts on here comparing truck drivers wages to others such as train drivers, now we have 74 posts about a firm buying some new blue trucks. How many think train drivers are so bothered about other firms trains being a different colour, it’s a Volvo nothing more than 1000s of others, they are there to do a job. While drivers are so worried about stupid things like this they deserve to be treated like they are.

There is such a thing as taking a pride in your work, and if you’ve shown (or the bloke offering you a job has judged from what he’s seen of you and your past) that you are reliable/competent and can take care of and not wreck a decent vehicle if issued to you, then what is wrong with enjoying the pleasure of a vehicle that not only looks good but has been specified up to be on top of the job.

Look, i’m the first to admit i chase the money, not the top line as such but decent terms/conditions for the reasonable hours and work involved and i want to go home after every shift ta very much, in return i give 100%, as most drivers in good jobs with an ounce of sense do, taking a pride in your work gives much pleasure, in return i’m treated with respect paid very well and issued with top notch equipment which i look after as if my own, win win all round.

The Volvos pictured look smart and fit for purpose, personally i don’t rate the marque these days but that’s only my view, but if i was involved high up in food production i’d rather see some well presented well driven vehicles collecting/delivering to my factories than some of the filthy crap that the competiton sees fit to operate…that is something that probably has reflected in the constant growth where i work.

I see what mac is on about tbh Juddian,.and I tend to agree with him up to a point mate tbh.

Too many drivers are too bothered about ‘‘being seen’’ in a top spec truck, rather than prioritising on t.s and c.s…although Whites do appear to have both of those boxes ticked if what we hear is correct.

As long as trucks are clean and well presented as you say Juddian, I don’t reckon managers of food production firms would give a toss about how well specced they were, or what type of truck, and engine size tbh,.they’d be equally impressed with a clean well presented bog standard motor I reckon,.although I do see the appeal from the perspective of drivers .

Last tine I collected from a food production place they made me sweep the cement dust off my trailer bed :unamused:

3 pages because a company buys a few new trucks then gets some grief for doing so,spotted one today m4 j18 truck looked like a truck trailer looked like a trailer driver looked like a normal driver does on a Monday morning, but I did like the colour
