New member nr Brighton saying "hi"

Just a quick intro, and wanting to say what a great forum this is.

Have had LGV1 since 1992 but only used a dozen times or so in early days for 12T horsebox. Then fell into landscaping, tree work and groundworks. Plenty of towing with 3.5T trailers, and driving dump trucks and diggers, but that’s about it! Couple of years ago had my age 45 medical, all good and entitlement renewed.

Now wanting to drive again so playing catchup and also booking a one day refresher at Hills of Plumpton who I did my test with all those years back. Also doing plenty of reading through the articles here.

Any advice gratefully received, including best place for job listings, who to avoid, who might take on an old ■■■■ (47) etc!

A good read of the current tacho and working time rules is a must as is being the holder of a current DQC

Thanks Rog.

A quick question, if I may…

“Acquired rights” - because I got my LGV1 in '92, do I only need to do the 35 hours CPC training? I’ve been lugging loads around on vehicles in excess of 7.5T, but only as a small part of my job, i.e. picking up machinery for work, transporting waste from jobs etc. So I’ve not actually been “working as a lorry driver” as stated on the government website, which means I have no proof of professional driving work.

Not sure what to do here. I really would rather not (nor can I afford the time/money to)go through all the modules that make up the initial CPC if “acquired rights” and 35 hours training is all that I need.

However many times I read the government website, it just doesn’t seem clear!

35 hours dcpc training only needed for commercially driving any vehicle over 3.5 tonnes GVW
That applied to you from 09/09/2014

Many thanks Rog!
