New lorry

Well i say new ,its about 7 weeks old now and fair play, its nice to have a new lorry(last time i drove one was 12 years ago)
but i find myself disliking it ,the more time i spend in it.
Probably sounds a bit petty to the cab happy fraternity but for a start ,the auto gearbox is hesitant and indecisive.
The drivers seat is crap.
The mirrors cause huge blind spots and the radio wont hold a station and that"s just for starters.
Does any one else on here have one of them there Antos ?
KIN PILE OF POOH.imo

For people like me, who didn’t know, this is the Antos.

Used to drive the Antos for P&H. 8 speed crap auto-very hesitant. Never seen so many cup holders in one cab lol.

If you hadn’t said it was an Antos, I’dve guessed you were describing an Arocs. Everything you said I’ve heard sad about the Arocs recently. Yesterday a Tuckwells driver referred to one as “double decker bus with a mixer on it’s back.”

The 12 speed beggars belief and the eps in a 1729 “powerliner” :unamused: would put it to shame.

Sounds like most of the stuff which they pass off as lorries these days.

crap gearbox…check
wardrobe door mirrors…check
seat designed to make your bum numb and give chronic backache…check
radio utterly useless and increasingly complicated, designed for 16 year old computer addicts…check

presumably the engine’s so ‘economy’ tuned that it has a mechanical heart attack as soon as it sees a hill so down the gears and drinks fuel…check

Sounds like you designed it Juddian!

Roundabouts were like a game of Russian roulette lol.

Forgot too mention, you can select the “power” option in auto. . makes frec all difference.

I’ve got a 64 plate Actros just now and the gearbox is the only thing that spoils the truck for me. Had a 58 plate a few years back and the gearbox in that wasn’t as bad as this one. Trying to keep moving by anticipating traffic at junctions and roundabouts doesn’t really work well in the new Actros. When you see a gap and plant the gas pedal, it faffs about for ages trying to find the right gear to be in. I find its just best to come to a complete standstill at junctions. Drops into the correct gear instantly this way. Apart from that, its a cracking truck to drive.[emoji1]

Arrgh hell no, i’d scrap the lot of 'em and make ■■■■■■■ (or Cat), Eaton, Rockwell drivetrains legal minimum requirements.

Nah. Just force every manufacturer to fit the Volvo I shift gearbox to their trucks instead.

A second class ride, is better than a first class walk Suedehead.

Agreed, so long as they’re compelled to use Volvo engines too, even the Volvo box would be stumped with these cut right back gutless engines (and getting worse) many of us are now saddled with, otherwise it would engage drive quickly as they do and the bloody engine would throw it’s hands in the air and stall.

Pet hate I have with Mercs is the daft dash mounted ignition & that card thing.

Why not just have a key?

Frustrating when you want to flick the ignition on from outside to adjust the suspension & you have to clamber up the steps and reach over the steering wheel.

still like my way of thinking for trucks

fck adblue check
f
ck filters check
open the engine up and get as much hp/torque as possible check
get them as fast as possible (legally) check
manual gear box check
straight through pipes check

and both or running 9.3/10.6

That depends if Cat is still in the truck engine business (last I heard it wasn’t).

Cat stopped making lory engines in the European market due to the cost of new Euro engines. They could possibly make a return however because their earthmoving machines now need Euro spec engines. Just think, all the problems we get with adblue, now some bright spark decides to stick those engines in permanently dirty environments.
I can see the remapping companies making a fortune switching off all those adblue systems.

Well, frec me.Been driving it for nigh on 2 months and was giving it its first wash today, looked at the badge, its actually an “Arocs”

Virtually the same truck.

Although the Arocs is fitted with the obligatory half brick rocket launchers from the back wheels.
