New link road propsal to join the A46 to the A36 Bath

As you know it’s a gridlock ,so the new road is ideal but not for many who opposed to it.
In the Bath Chronicle readers letters, he points out that the road will attract more lorries and more noise and pollution on Limpley Stoke hill as he does not know about Euro 6 engines,Adblue and air filters on modern vehicles.
He wants a truck ban on the A36 ,so unware there are weight limits in Hinton Charterhouse, Norton st Phillip and Bradford
On Avon .
Bath failed to divert heavy vehicles to use the A360 via Westbury .
Batheaston bypass did nothing to stop jams in Bath by the fire station .
He lives in a quiet residential area so not sure why the concern for him counting scores of lorries on the A4 in to the city.
The local MP is backing the scheme so I emailed my support .

A truck ban on the A36 will never happen; it’s a trunk road and the main road from Bristol to Southampton. A link from the A46 (which is also a trunk road) would take traffic out of Bath and off the A4, but it would also mean a lot of traffic that currently uses the M4/A34 route would use the A36 instead. Both it and the A46 would have to be improved.

A better idea might be to redirect the A36 via the current A350 via Chippenham to reach the M4. But that would also add distance and some people would still go via Newbury, especially towards Bristol (the other way means sitting that queue up to the M3 roundabout).
