I got the bit about you going on strike in Sydney and Canadia (very nice too!!) and that you dont agree with cheap foreign labout taking your jobs (sounds familiar!! ) but as for the rest of it ā¦
Any salty old seadogs wanna translate??
Someone having a bad day pal, pure and simple
And no truth in it either.
Back in the āgood ole daysā some of the overrated and overpaid deep sea deckhands and some unenlightened orificers thought they could hold the shipowners to ransom for even more cushier conditions. They failed cos the owners either sold up or re-registered their ships under foreign flags, (Flag Of Convenience) hence then being able to employ in some cases cheaper labour.
The last bit he was saying about was as second mate he supervised the unloading while the1st mate did the loading and the ole man (captain did nowt but get ā ā ā ā ā ā all day in some cases) but now and again may have done a bridge watch at sea.
He then rambled on about me doing the eight to twelve watch on this little old girl (stores barge) call it what you will but at least as yet I aint priced mysen out of an industry and still probably get more money in a couple of days than he gets in about four, so who is the master
bates?
his words not mine.
Ahaa⦠it was the last bit that threw me!!!
Cheers Captain, should have keelhauled him, ooo arrr, ooo arrr, pieces of eight, ye scurvy knave
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, be it right or wrong but you get those sort of people in all walks of life and I just treat his uninformed blather with the contempt it deserves.
Sailed Saturday morn from the Tees with the prospect of some good weather ahead of us going to Amsterdam again then unload Monday and load again back for the Tees. 1200 tons fertiliser. The radio op man in port control gave me a bollocking cos I never gave him an hours notice of permission to sail. What for ā ā No tugs, pilot or linesmen required and sailing out into an empty river⦠bloody jobsworth, they are everywhere in this game.
edit⦠Ooops!!! I forgot, signed the āscabā
BTW⦠the photo of the Scotch fry up in the UK Drivers section under the Goatys āFancy a Scotchā post will be shown to our cook poste haste

Hi Raymundo, I was a docker for 17 yrs and the crew of any vessel was not allowed to touch the ropes they were done by a local company every time a vessel came or went obviously different in Tees. We also called the kind of vessel youāre on a Coaster, is that another name for it. Also have you ever been to Royal Portbury or Avonmouth dock ? I once sailed from Portbury to Antwerp on a ro - ro ship, best 36 hrs Iāve had I think.
Yes it a little coaster that Iām on. We can only carry 1200 ton and there not many left this size.
Some places we go to its compulsory to have linesman or boatmen, different name but same thing. it depends on the cicumstances whether we use them or not.
Arrived at Haverton Hill at 1600 Thurs unloaded this morn then back to Clevland potash terminal and loaded another 1200 ton back for Amsterdam, sailing 0930 Sat. Tip Monday and reload for Montrose again, this is like a milk round but only another 4 weeks to go then 4 to six weeks at home. Then if I get really bored will do a bit of agency work out of Inverness if they get strapped for a driver.
Raymundo, is that the way the whole sea faring trade works, equal time on board and then off duty??
Six weeks on and six weeks off on full pay sounds pretty good to me!!!

Deffo seems that way, a mate of mine works on Cal-Mac ferries as an engineer and seems to be home as much as heās away!!
Ross.
I wish it was equal time at home on full pay, Iām on āno work no payā because I dont work for the same company all the time and freelance to do a variety of shipping jobs. One month I might be on a general cargo ship, next a dredger doing a delivery job in the Medi and then possibly a container ship. I get bored too easily doing the same thing week after weekā¦
Dont know what run your mate is one with Cal Mac but I worked the western isle and the Irish sea on a couple of timber boat until quite recently so we may have gone past in the night, and yes they have a bloody good little number there.I much prefer working the west coast than the east where we are now. Was on charter to JST of Ayr on the Red Duchess but fell out big style with the Irish owner because he wanted a āāYes Sir, three bags full Sirāā type and that just aint me

Hence , you are sat next to Jackie Chan on one side and Ghandi on the other watching another Bruce Lee movie in your 10 x 8 mess room over a spare ribā¦,
You made your bed, now lie in itā¦!!!
My last ship was MV MATCO CLYDE. IT WAS A MONTH ABOUT WITH FULL PAY RUNNING UP THE BERYL FIELD TO LOAD OFF THE RIG (SBM).
We used to anchor off Scarborough, waiting on good weather up North.
Pleasure boats used to circle us for a trip. 3 years on that, last but one ship I sailed on. You wouldn.make jos on that!!!
And your dodgy F/G ticket, you have not been to Curacoa to study. If so, WHAT IS UNIQUE. UPON APPROACH. TO WILMSTAD IE: THE CASINO, THE BRIDGE, AND THE LOCAL ā ā ā ā ā HOUSEā ā ?
ā ā ā ā ā ā IN HEMEL, AN EEEJIT WITH A SMARTPHONE

Ohh Arghh Cappin!!
Any salty old sea dogs fancy translating the above??
I have never choosen to put anyone on the āblock listā but unless that pratt/deep sea reject can come up with a constructive criticism I will be surely tempted.
His requested answer was probably a whorehouse⦠and seeing as he was on tankers it was likely a rent boy type he knew and frequented. Hence the good memory
Matco Clyde, remember seeing her off Scarboro at anchor, not alot of seamanship required there to do that.
I can just envisage the passengers on the Coronia being told over the tannoy ''If you care to look over the starboard/ port side you will see the last of the dinosaurs still alive, AKA The ones who could not or would not evolve, ie, The British (Union led to the slaughter) seaman.
BTW He obviously have not heard of a CEC = Certificate of Equivalent Competency,
BTW (2) The mess room TV is a 40āā HD Plasma, and I also have my own along with HD satellite reception and internet, times have changed since your day of two of you sharing the same bunk in the focāsle with parafin lamps and cork paint lining the steel bulkheads.
Mucksavaga,
Sir,
You stated on your first post that this little ole girl Iām on was a mere āstores bargeā.
The Matco Clyde wasnāt exactly an ocean going vessel as she was built for the job that you did on her, merely a shuttle tanker or big coastal oil barge in 1982 by a Japanese shipyard, (how could you lower yourself to work on something that wasnāt entirely British being obviously the best). She wasnāt exactly over powered either with only 17000hp to push herself along but as you were at anchor most of the time probably never needed that very often. Was the engine properly run in by the time she went for scrap in 2004, I believe she was of a single skin construction (please correct me if wrong) if so she was of an inferior build !
And thanks for the offer but no-way would I want a jos position (junior ordinary seaman) on that because at that time I was skipper of a little Panama registered coaster called the Andrea with a Cape Verde crew and as I sailed without a mate for 15months I got his wages as well, which put me on a very good wage at the time. The owner was a well respected Dutch shipowner who was a pleasure to work for.
We used to run into Scarbroā with spuds for the McCain chip factory at Eastfield as well and after that I lived there for 13 years so remember seeing the Thames and Avon also polluting the scenery from both the sea and ashore.
Kind Regards
Ray
PS Do you know if Ramon is still harbour master at Wilamstadt?

On the Red Duchess we had a British mate and Engineer and Fillipino sailors, and a bloody good set of lads they were to work with, grub was fantastic and the accommodation was spotless for your information, thanks to them not me. She was built originally as a container feeder ship so she had plenty of space for the excessive number of crew she originally carried as she was under the British flag then and still is.
God, Iām going to bed as I am tired of answering his mindless twaddle
