New job tomorrow

Hi.

I’m 25 and have held my c+e since September 2010. I’ve only been working class 1 since last June and the work has been store deliveries, collections and occasional trunking.

Tomorrow I’m starting a 13 week temporary placement at Bentons Haulage, Colehill and just wondering what exactly I should expect, and maybe any tips that may help me get through my first day. All I know is it’s car parts and a curtainsider. I’m pretty confident in my abilities anyway but a little help always goes a long way.

Cheers
Dan

Sorry can’t help you. But will wish you luck mate

Never worked for them, but you’ve done well, so congratulations.

I did Mercedes Benz a few years ago on agency, car / truck part delivery, all tail lift work, cages, sounds easy, but some of the deliveries were nightmares, and on hills with truck brakes / clutches in cages, was easier just to pick them back up afterwards lol

Probably nothing to worry about at all if you’ve been driving class one since June. Just take your time and if unsure of anything, ask someone. Better to ask and do it right than to say nothing and make a [zb] up. Good luck.

Just ask the guys you work with don’t be scared.

What have you done before?

Benton do a fair bit into landrover, i see them up n down the M6 with landrover chassis from the chassis plant in telford, ive seen them in sertec down in coleshill collecting pressings for landrover when ive been delivering steel there hope that helps, and a heres tip if you ever get sent to Walsall Pressings in Walsall park at the top and walk round to goodsin/despatch as Ive lost count of the times I went there with steel drove in and then had to reverse back up to the waiting area

Haha nice one I’ll be sure to remember that. Thanks for all replies. I’ll let you all know how it goes tomorrow. Just really hoping to make good impression as after 13 weeks if all goes ok it becomes a permanent employment, which would be my first C+E full time job (currently on agency to get started).

Have found this site a great help past few months with tips and advice etc and I’m sure it’ll continue to provide me with that.

Thanks again all.

Yeh I tend to try and ask the other guys anyway, always find the vast majority of other drivers extremely helpful considering they don’t really need to be. It’s impressive how many people are willing to help the new guy.

Have done lots of store deliveries for Bhs, that’s mainly the only place I’ve been working, and although it’s experience, it’ll be totally different to general haulage I’m sure.
