New job on Monday

Hi All,

Finally after 9 weeks of agency work I’ve had an interview and been given the job!

It’s driving a Class 2 Tanker collecting waste oil and I start on Monday. I’ve never driven a tanker before only class 2 curtainsiders, flats and boxes so I was wondering if there is anything I should look out for or if anyone had any experiences of what they are like to drive?

The one i’m going to be driving is a Scania P series with Opticruise.

Dave

Just need to get used to “movement” in the load … particularly when part-loaded … not done waste oil coolection, so don’t know if you’ve got baffles / partitions ( seperate compartments ) in the tank ? Might not be too bad … depending how thick the oil is

remember when you brake to a stop that once you have stopped the load will come forward and try to push you forward a short while later

just take your time and remeber that you have a moving load and you will be fine

goog luck monday

get some very good ppe as you will need it. you’ll may also be manhandling full and empty oil filter barrel’s (old oil barrel’s with the top chopped off) you’ll be driving in to some very tight spot’s as well, have fun and go steady around bend’s…

Good luck fella

Just drive nice and smooth and avoid sharp braking good luck

Good luck with the job

Pack a few boiler suits to protect what you wear underneath.

Good luck fella! :grimacing:

All the best for your new adventurer

Enjoy the new experience… Just remember when you brake part/full loaded, just as you nearly come to rest, let your foot off the brake to let it push you a couple of foot more, you’ll be fine…! :sunglasses:

That’s what I was going to say. Expect to be doing some very precise manoeuvring.

Take your time, don’t rush around. A decent employer will expect you to be slow the first few weeks knowing you haven’t done the job before. A pratnav might come in useful too as its usually very much a case of multi collection.
Probably be sucking out of 45 gal drums on farms, at garages, haulage co’s, etc.

Thanks for all the messages guys
I’ve spent the last 3 days shadowing another driver, so tomorrow I’m out in my own truck with another driver and the same next week! Let the learning begin
My ‘New’ Truck…

I have a question for you, where is the exhaust brake or retarder on that truck?is it on the cab floor,a button by the pedals,or there is not one fitted??

There is a button on the floor near the pedals and there is also a switch on the dash which I assume is to switch it on!

Thanks.
