i thought i might fit right in.
they asked the usual question:" how long can you stay awake?"
and the correct answer is this:" until the jobs done".

is that 110 euros a day everyday in the truck phil or 110 euros everyday you drive?
be careful as they used to pay per day in the truck (on the beach waiting for a load  ) but then realised they could get away with paying just for the days driven to a certain percentage of the drivers
see quite a few of them down here i think they back on the dunnes work

didn’t ask about it like that. they asked what i wanted to earn, and i got what i asked for.

Why are Nolans slagged off? What exactly is wrong with them? I see loads of their wagons in the UK and in Europe. They must be doing something righ!

Yes, keeping VOSA busy!

Rumour has it that so many of them have been parked up on Fridays at Carmarthen cattle market by the plod that they’re seriously thinking of opening it as a truckstop!

Be a bit quiet the rest of the week though!

many years ago they were a cracking firm to work for. one guy said it was a job for life type of outfit, then the east europeans came over. the bosses made the job very difficult for the irish, and welsh drivers. they couldn’t sack them, so they just got shafted, and forced to leave. then they were replaced by cheap foriegn labour.
these lads from eastern europe lived in the trucks 7 days a week, so they were afraid to speak up. “no job, no home”.
the situation now appears very different. the bosses know what they have done, and the welsh, irish, and the poles don’t want to work for them. so they are doing a bit of back peddling.

What will you be doing to keep you away for 6 weeks shag?
I don’t suppose that matters too much though…the Nolan sisters eh.

I would agree with you there limeyphil, they were a good firm to work for before the east europeans came over and worked for less than the welsh and irish and were living in their trucks. thats why i asked you about the wages as we were paid every day we had the truck away from new roo but they were paid just for the days they drove, it was regular to see them parked up waiting for loads and not getting paid.
it used to be anything you needed you got too, never a problem with fuel cards and plenty of them and apart from the tachos everything else was well looked after

it’s just the weird way i like to work.
1 week away, 1 day off.
2 weeks, 2 days off, etc, etc.

i used to dread getting weekended, but after a while i looked forward to it.
from time to time my wife comes with me, it’s good fun,
and if she dosn’t, i’ll take her sister.

Fair play…You’re wife isn’t pregnant is she?

Doesn’t it hurt?

Met up with one of their drivers.Ex RD -S.Walian.Seem to recall he had a Merc 1850SK.I still remember him telling me that one of the bosses used to say that a Welshman was like a lightbulb. When one blows up,you just plug anoyher one in!! Did they have a high turnover of drivers even then,I wonder?
