Hi guys new to the forum.
I passed my class 2 test in 2012 (fireservice cpc excempt)
And tomorrow I have my cpc module 4 test so I can drive commercially.
Would like some advise please on what satnav to get? Is aponia android app suitable or do I need better? I’m goin through an agency for work and due to having a bad back I’m unable to handball so what jobs should I be aiming for?
Cheers
Hi pal and welcome to the forum!
Sat-Nav’s have been done to death on lots of previous threads, so I’ll just link one very long one: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=128456
As for types of work that isn’t handballing, it’s probably easier to identify the ones that are!
So any type of food service won’t be on your list: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=139182
But the main issue you are going to have is that as a Newbie (relatively speaking) you’re not going to really be able to pick and choose…
I started on pallet Multi-drop and that wasn’t too physical, but on occasion it did require a fair bit of grunt fighting with a pallet truck and a full IBC or pallets of turf, etc…
Speak to plenty of agencies in your area and see what each has to offer. Yes there will be some overlap with what firms they have on their books, but some will hold contracts that others don’t.
Lastly, if you can’t do much handball due to your back, and want to continue with your path into trucking, you really should set your sights on Class 1. (Proper trucking! )
Best of luck pal…
Hmmn…let’s see. Agency…bad back…don’t want to handball…
Yep. Got the ideal job for you mate. Eddski Stobartski is the place for you.
Hi mate. I’m just about to start my cpc tomorrow for the full 35 hours after a gap of over 20 years from general haulage (all classes). I’ve spoken to a few agencies before hand as to what to expect as I too have the odd back problem (I’m 56 now). Most will take that into consideration but it may limit your job offers. Saying that, I’d rather go that way than exert myself too much and end up not being able to work at all with a bad back keeping me off.
Class 1 could well be a thought as mentioned, but with a dicky back, take consideration if it’s general haulage class 1, those sheets can weigh a ton when you need to lift them on to your unit/ trailer! Some drops, you’ll find the forklift drivers don’t mind doing that for you, but don’t take that for granted they all will.

Sorry but if you can’t lift a pole and then hold down a curtain in strong winds without help, then they ain’t for you. Try containers as a main steam alternative, or bulk tippers, fridges, tail lift cage multi drop, etc. Class 1 has numerous less strenuous alternatives to VAN driving!
And well done beaver, always the helpful bellend!
Tail lift drops for the girls in green didn’t work out for you ya?
Can i point out that bulk tippers isn’t as easy as you may envisage either, unless you get a fancy electric easy sheet. Pulling the sheet by hand over a high load can be bloody hard work. As can shoveling a stuck or frozen load out.
