New increased LGV speed limit

The Govt today announced an increase in the speed limit on single carriageway roads from 40mph to 50mph. New legislation will be introduced in the next few weeks and will take effect next year from April at the latest.

There is also a 6 week consultation starting now to decide whether to increase the dual carriageway limit from 50 to 60mph. If agreed this will become law at the same time as the above.

The amended speed limit will cover single carriageway roads outside built up areas in England and Wales.

But Scotland is doing it’s own trials of this very thing on the A9, so won’t be far behind - it might even get there first!

Higher HGV speed limit trial and cameras for A9 - BBC News

Yeah a trial next year. It’s happening here next year.

I was just reflecting that apart from legal paperwork, this change requires virtually nothing to happen to signage, and only the UK would take 9 months to bring in a change that is effectively “ok lads, you can step on it now”
