blackbox:
Been in today very good, but a few drivers where on about how tight it is to turn into the truck park next to the barrier’s cheer’s
Aye we’ve noticed! It’s on our list of things to change. We’re going to move the whole entry ticket machine and barrier back another 4-5 yards to give drivers longer to get turned in. Also apologies for some of the problems with the pumps cutting off. A few teething problems but should all be sorted in the next week or so.
Any other suggestions from people who have been in? Lots of people asking about cafe… we can’t make any progress on that at the moment but hopefully you’ll be able to use vouchers pub down the road and the Subway in a couple of weeks. We should have full wi-fi coverage in the truck park by the end of the month too.
We’ve also got an idea to build a ‘Drivers lounge’. We’re thinking a few sofas, tables n chairs, tv, pool table?, dart board etc… exclusive to drivers parking up. Any thoughts/ideas on that?
Subway?? Not the most satisfactory provider of sustainable provender by a long chalk i got to say.Not bin up there for years but I always enjoyed the vibe, and nosh,at Londonderry plus the odd aerobatics from the tornado fighters now and again. Are they still there does anyoneknow? Dare say they’re using typhoons now days if that’s the case.
Anyone know if whats to become of the old place?A genuine haven of Yorkshire hospitality if I remember well,in direct opposition to the hellish, sterile, american roadkill burgerfests that infest our msa’s throughout the land…decent wi-fi would be a bonus at the new joint.
Left hand down!:
Why £17? Please justify this figure. Thanks.
To pay for it and make a profit ?
Why do some haulage firms charge more than others for the same Job ?
I’m not disagreeing, but why £17 and not £10, for example? What is the justification for such an extortionate amount (in comparison to local competition) or is it simply down to greed?

Can only be greed as they have obviously not looked at local competition !!
I called in today myself for fuel & can confirm it will be the last time I do. Despite being under the ‘Shell’ logo they would not accept the loyalty card for points. I was told you can’t get them with HGV … funny that as every other Shell Fuel Station does now accept the loyalty card for HGV.
So everything is stacked up against them, I get the distinct impression they have opened this site and not quite decided if they want HGV custom or Joe Public custom.
Interesting to see they haven’t come back on here to respond to the questions being asked, is that because reality has sunk in and they are not the next ‘Stockyard’.

They’ve been reading the posts on here about hourly rates and are looking to capture the "premium " market !!
Why mug yourself off for £8.50 PH when you can demand £12 PH ? Same principal.

Very good…
The difference is, those drivers charging “premium” rates have already established themselves and have the reputation to go with it so can get away with charging what they do (which is a perfectly reasonable amount, by the way) because they are in demand. This guy appears to have nothing but a large piece of wasteland with a Subway & pub some miles walk away but seems to think it’s worth £17 per truck when there are empty industrial estate roads to park up at on the other side of the A1. I’ll give him 10/10 for trying and he might just pull it off given how thick most drivers are, but personally at those rates, I’m out.
With regards to truck park prices, it’s simply the premium cost of the land and development next to a motorway. In total it’s cost us about £6.5 million in total so far.
Fully agree there are cheaper places to park but we offer parking with very high security compared to others in a premium location. Perimeter fence, 30 CCTV cameras, patrol guard, gated access… Sure not everyone needs that but that’s what we offer.
Fully respect comments about lack of food options and we will look to improve it as soon as we are able to.

This figure I presume relates to all your locations combined not just this one…

Secure parking is a massive plus point but I can’t help feel your market research may have been a little weak.
It may have been better to start with a lower price point for the foot fall (or rubber fall) so as to get some more interest from drivers looking for a parking place. Perhaps £10 just for parking and £14 with a £5 meal voucher would have been better.
The price can always be increased as more facilities (which in turn will generate added profit) become available.
Might also be worth adding a truckers bling shop in the future for those who want some extras for their truck… in fact why not call it ‘Truckers Bling’…
Also make sure to stock a load of 24volt stuff, bulbs etc.
That said any company that wants to improve overnight parking options for drivers is good and I have tempered my comments to reflect this.
If I may be so bold for the future I would look at a truck stop around the A12 /A13 preferably within 20 miles from the M25 to capture the traffic from the growing London Gateway plus traffic coming from Felixstowe to the capital not to mention M25 traffic thats stuck and needs somewhere to park up as South Mims, Purfleet etc are usually full by 7.30pm.

I’d say that sounds right just about for the 1 Leeming site.

you have spent 6.5m on a truckstop that doesn’t sell food
oh that’s right, you said earlier, you couldn’t make enough profit out of it so subbed it all out, which your trying to do now, but still want 17 quid per wagon for ■■■■ all. I wonder where excelby got the 6.5 mill from if not extortionate pricing
Just out of interest is this site free for a 45 main break? If so when do charges start to apply. Reason for asking is that we do a collection very close and sometimes we have a few hours to kill before it is read. And this site would be perfect as at least there are some facilities. Thanks
