Ok the new place is more modern than the old but parking up from a fiver to 17 quid is a bit of a hike is it not. I’ve seen me stop there 2 to 3 times a week on a couple of occasions so instead of £15 it will be £51.
I realize that sounds like a moan, but it’s a valid point, and not every firm pays for parking.
, Is the old site compound park being sold off, or could it be left open for those just wanting nothing more than their time off.
I will more than likely use the new place but it was just a (maybe bad) idea.
I would imagine the price increase is to pay for the land. The old site has been there forever and will have paid for itself many times over, so they could afford to keep prices low. The new site looks to be fairly big and probably has a mortgage to match.
So at the moment with only a subway, how would you encourage drivers to park there for £17 as appose to Leeming Services for £15 which has a MCDONALD’S, GARAGE, SHOP, FULL USE OF HOTEL FACILITIES inc The Bar & Restaurant plus a hotel room for drivers to shower or bath etc.
Yes it’s a new site and fresh tarmac to park on but the facilities are hardly anything over the ordinary at the moment.
Personally I would drop the food voucher and offer parking for £12 until more facilities are available.
Have you considered a loyalty card or similar that could offer a free night or half price after having something like 5 nights there.
Nice to see you accept SNAP, will give it a try when in the area.
Keep the parking prices high to put off the riff raff who work for dodgy companies that don’t pay parking. Bugger me I’m surpirised anyone puts up with this.
A discount code would be a good idea for members of this forum who have read your free advertising though, perhaps £3 discount on parking etc…, may even give a mini review after a night out.

Yeh mate, because we all know that drivers and the firms that don’t pay are ALL riff Raff aren’t they…ffs . unbelievable.
…I worked for a Dutch outfit that did not pay as they did not agree with having to pay everywhere as you do in the UK which I also agree with. There are a few Euro firms with the same policy, and what about owner drivers are they riff Raff also or guys that are working on a tight budget that does not justify paying up to £85 a week just to park up.

Have I touched a nerve
OD’s will work the parking fee’s if possible into their overheads.
Companies that don’t pay will not be doing so out of any moral highground, they will do this so their drivers either pay themselves or face the alternative of finding a free location. Safety of their drivers / load /vehicle becomes less of a concern when theres some penny pinching to be done. Admittedly with a big fleet this cost saving could be very large and well worth the occasioanl diesel / load theft insurance premium hike.
That doesn’t mean the risk is not present at locations where parking isn’t free just its less risky for the driver who is working for free as a security guard on their rest period and theres some facilities to use.
Its also possible to find free parking locations with facilities, these may be few and far between, e.g Sutton Scotney.
Apologies for the riff raff comment if it caused offence…ffs

Speaking as an ex owner driver and a driver that has worked for non park pay Euro firms, yeh you have touched a nerve, I am not riff Raff mate on either of those scenarios, but you apologized so fair enough. (even if it was followed by a rolling eyes and a ‘ffs’)
If as an o/d I had said to my customer I need extra £50 a week on my rate for parking I know what 2 words would have been used as a reply being that it was not Cloudcuckooland where I was working.
I partly agree about cowboy firms reasons for not paying parking, but they are the exception rather than the rule as in the example I gave you in my case.
I am also aware there are free parking facilities if you are willing to look, I do not pay to park every night and NEVER park in ■■■■ hole lay bys.
All parking should be free in an ideal world but seeing as it has developed into an an actual industry from town centres onwards, it will never happen
I do think though that anything over a tenner for overnight truck parking that does not include a voucher is ott.
Although O/D’s should be able to factor parking in and use a few accountancy tricks to find free parking then claim £15 -£20 as a tax deductable expense (lost receipts etc) I do believe truckstops should operate a better pricing structure.
i.e. £10 just to park, £15 with an £8 meal voucher + free use of showers
MSA’s are pretty much a law onto themselves £27 the other night at Rownhams but I did get a £10 meal voucher and could still claim the £25 parking cost back.
Perhaps its another thing to consider when looking at jobs, a company paying £9 perhour but no parking rebates may not be as good as one paying £8.50 with parking fee’s covered.
Although I’m a strong believer in companies having to pay no matter what I will still try and find a free spot if possible, makes me look good . Customer premises are a favourite of mine with use of facilities and a quiet corner I can escape to.
Whether its 9, 11, 24, 45 hours off I still feel responsible for my vehicle as an unpaid security guard, although if push came to shove and I was targeted for theft I would most likely be running off and letting my assailants know that they could help themselves…
Just popped in there for a coffee, and basically its a pumped up petrol station. There’s a space in the corner where the Subway will fit, but no sign of it yet. 4 coin operated showers in the gents, is the ladies the same? The shop has the usual array of mobile phone holders, flags and air fresheners, but other than its just your average spar convience store
Will the £5 voucher be redeemable in Subway, or can it be used in the shop for sandwiches and snacks?
Saw it for the first time last night even though I’ve been going into leeming bar Ind est for the last week.
The lights are on and it looks quite smart, fully visible from the A1 and if your coming north there’s a little excelby sign at the side of the motorway just before the mile to go board.
Industrial estates still full of parked up rigs though!
blackbox:
Been in today very good, but a few drivers where on about how tight it is to turn into the truck park next to the barrier’s cheer’s
Aye we’ve noticed! It’s on our list of things to change. We’re going to move the whole entry ticket machine and barrier back another 4-5 yards to give drivers longer to get turned in. Also apologies for some of the problems with the pumps cutting off. A few teething problems but should all be sorted in the next week or so.
Any other suggestions from people who have been in? Lots of people asking about cafe… we can’t make any progress on that at the moment but hopefully you’ll be able to use vouchers pub down the road and the Subway in a couple of weeks. We should have full wi-fi coverage in the truck park by the end of the month too.
We’ve also got an idea to build a ‘Drivers lounge’. We’re thinking a few sofas, tables n chairs, tv, pool table?, dart board etc… exclusive to drivers parking up. Any thoughts/ideas on that?
