New guy here

Hi guys thought i may as well make my first post. Decided to go for my lgv license to move away from being in retail for 14 yrs. I’m from the Rotherham area and i’ve decided to do my training with Tal Training in Sheff. Heard good things from a mate who went with them earlier this year. So I had my medical last Weds and sent my docs of Thursday. Looked online Sunday morning and its showing i have C1, C, D1 & D on my provisional now. They went on it from the Sat which i thought was quick. So was wondering if any of you would have a rough idea when my license would probably turn up? Also have any of you got any feedback of Tal Training?

Cheers in advance

Daz

If they are already appearing online, it won’t be long before you’ll get your license back.

If its online, then your licence should arrive 3 days later. Don’t know much about TAL, my advice for what you should do.

  1. Go for an assessment at more than one driving school.
  2. Train in a Automatic, you would be crazy not to.
  3. Pay on credit card
  4. Ask local haulage companies or drivers who they recommend.

They seem decent enough and my mate and his girlfriend passed with them easy. The plus side when i went to see them is that the testing centre is just round the corner from them also. So i would be straight on the test routes

Always have an assessment at the one you fancy. Then at least one more. Otherwise you have nothing to compare with.

Some trainers have much more to offer than others and it’s well worth having a look around.

Not to diss Tal in any way but if in that area I think I would have chosen Peter Smythe training who have the test yard in their premises so you practice on that

If not paid any money to a trainer yet then have an assessment at both and perhaps another

Speaking of PS - he just posted above

Don’t bet put off , TAL decent trainers highly recommended by myself as they got me thru my bendy licence

Suggest you go to TAL for assessment then try us. Send a pm for the Christmas discount voucher - it’s bound to come out cheaper and give you loads more choices (drawbar manual or auto/full size auto artic).

As ROG says, we have our own test centre on site (the very first in the UK) and we just happen to be the only DSA LGV Accredited training centre between Leicester and Carlisle.

Well worth having a look around, Pete

well my provisional has come through the post not bad 6 days turnaround. Time to get theory sorted

Good luck with it. I just passed cat c and c+e with tockwith but they might be a bit far for you. I drove a manual on the first day and an auto for the test and while the manual wasn’t that difficult to master, I Definately recommend auto for a test. Plus full facilities on site for test manoeuvres is a big bonus!!

Well got my Mod 2 CPC @ 11:30am Multiple choice @12:45pm and Hazard Perception @2:00pm all on 11th December lol. Going to be a long day. Time to squat and practice my Hazard perception and CPC as Hazard Perception wasn’t around when i first past. Been getting scores of 93 to 100 on theory so should nail that with a bit of extra work.

What often happens is that they offer you the chance to do one after the other if you finish any early

Well just thought I’d update this as my test were from this morning. Did my CPC first. I decided to get my result for that one as soon as i took it. This was the one i feared most but yet i found it was the easiest one :unamused: I scored 45 out of 50 so passed  . Then i went to do my multiple choice which i was most comfortable with before i went. After doing it i wasn’t so confident i passed so decided to do my hazard without getting my results so i wasn’t put on a downer  . so did my hazard and thought if anything its the multiple choice i’d messed up on. Scored 76 out of 100 on the hazard. The score you need to pass is 67 out of 100. My multiple choice was 91 out of 100. Oh the joy afterwards :grimacing: . So phoned up my trainer (Tal training) to see when i can do my practical. I’m now provisionally booked in for the week commencing 5th Jan. I cant wait :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

All the best with it, Pete

Good work that man! I hope mine all goes that well.

I know them both and they’ll both pass a decent drive and fail if it’s not up to scratch. Don’t worry about. Relax and enjoy the training experience. All the best with the test, Pete

So today i had my Mod 4. Went better than i thought passed it with 100% full marks. Just got my practical to do now. One thing i heard the examiner tell my instructor was that they are moving the Mod 4 to run side by side with the practical. Its going to change sometime this year. So you do your Cpc then straight on practical.
