New Greenwich tunnel

The irony of the result could be funny if it were not a bit tragic.

Laugh? Cry? Beat our heads against a brick wall?

Hurryup&wait:
Yes that’s an over simplification as there was a lot of influencers pulling the strings of the electorate

There is more than a few books to be written about that, too. The ■■■■■■■■■■■ movie hasnt been mentioned here either has it?

And thanks for the link to the Stiglitz article. Following that up will take more than 5 minutes wont it?
S`pose I could instead click on links from the Daily Fail dash-cam page, to articles about singers wearing bikinis, that lead to articles about how honest Boris is…

EDIT to add:
On the “Any Answers” programme one contributor said-
“You ask your child what they would like as a birthday treat?
They reply “A trip to the beach on Saturday”. So you promise to take them.
Saturday arrives, and its raining. Kid says "Ive changed my mind, I dont want to go to the beach”.
But youve made that promise, so do you still take them? Do you do what they now dont want?"

Happy 3rd Birthday Brexit, June 23rd.

A very Solzhenitsyian analogy there frangers. :unamused:

Another £billion to be spent on the poor benighted South East of England, on top of the approx £40odd billion on Crossrail. Then there’s HS2 which will probably not get to Leeds in the foreseeable future, never mind the other 100 miles to Newcastle, and then on to Scotland. Here in the North East of allegedly the same country we still can’t get a dual carriageway on the A1 north of Morpeth to the border with Scotland. Is it any wonder were so bloody bitter about the situation? Regards Kev.

Bitter ■■ Geordie’s / northerners

Whose ever heed o such a thing like ?

Didn’t think there be a demand up north, Thought they still used horse & carts in that part of the world

They’ve only just introduced the “hobby horse” up here in the frozen north " Elsa lad". We need the dual carriageways to practice our anti skid and snow procedures.  PS. No more humour, efin brexit has hijacked another thread.

Oh, Brexit has hijacked a lot more than ‘another thread’…

And one of your possible future PM candidates wants to offer free British Citizenship to Europeans who lived here before the brexit vote. Please extend a warm welcome to Bogdan and Vladimir.

I somehow think Pierre, Helmut and Wouter will politely decline.

Decided who youre voting for in the PM elections? At least we arent like those undemocratic Euros!
All (most) of the papers dont critisise the Labour Party as much as they crtisise the leader. It aint “Labour is rubbish” as much as “Corbin is rubbish”. They equate the party with the possible PM. They seem remarkably quiet about the democratic deficit we have in the upcoming change of PM we have no say in.
I know its the same system weve always had, but that doesnt make it right does it? It`s just another aspect of a broken system.
The polls show Boris is the Tory members favourite, but that he could be unpopular with the Great British public. Would we, as a country vote for Boris as PM in a General Election?

Edit to add:
Here`s how it happens: researchbriefings.parliament.uk … ry/SN01366

biggriffin:
The contract for the new tunnel has been awarded to a Spanish company, Ferrovial, they beat another Spanish company (ACS) to the tender. They were the only two companies bidding…
It’s 1.1 billion contract … So much for Brexit.
Ferrovial also a part-owner of Heathrow…

ferrovial.com/en/business-l … struction/

Isn’t it it more of a consortium, Ferrovial, Korean company SK Engineering, along with a Scottish company ASI, a German company and a Dutch company which includes BAM, who bought out Edmund Nuttall in Manchester, iirc built the original Mersey Tunnel, the Liver Building.

Now just reading that article, that’s lots of fingers in the pie, how much over budget, will it be, there’s money to be had for the big players, and little suppliers to get stitched up.

It won’t be as bad as HS2
