According to the below information, the Ford tractor unit is manufactured in Turkey. Development work started in 2013, and was first released in 2018. It’s only made in LHD, and is sold in mainland Europe.

Ford has released the first official pictures of the long-haul truck it’s going to launch at the IAA Show in Hannover in September.

The manufacturer has claimed that the flat floor tractor unit, pictured in in Ford blue, will be every bit as good as its rivals in the European truck market.

Director of international trucks Emrah Duman told CM: “There will no longer be seven sisters, there will be eight. And we have ambitions to enter all the markets that they are present in.”

The tractor unit has been in development since 2013, and features a 2.5m-wide cab and a flat floor.

CM readers gave a mixed bag of responses to their first sight of the new truck on social media channels.

“Thinking a cross between a Volvo FH and a Series S Scania. It doesn’t look too bad though,” said Susan Sullivan.

Graham Wilson said: “I think it looks pretty smart! But I would be worried about whether they have the dealer network in place to support it.”

Less enamoured was Charlie Chester, who commented: “They’ve had all that time to draw up something ground breaking, modern, stylish, sleek, future proof, and they come up with this!? Unbelievable.”

While some responded to the pictures with “fantastic truck” and “I’ll have one of them”, Daniel Blane added simply: “Looks kinda garden shed-ish.”

The truck will be built in Turkey, but the manufacturer was keen to stress when it announced the vehicle that it will for use throughout mainland Europe.

Ford intends to open a service network across Western Europe and is in the process of doing so, but has no immediate plans to sell trucks in the UK.

As for a right hand drive version of the new truck, the name of which is yet to be revealed, Duman said that Ford would need a strong business case to produce one.

What motor and driveline? Ford Heavy Vehicles USA and Oceania rebranded as Sterling after being sold to Mercedes.

Not far from me then, I am in the mountains, my nearest little village is Alvito da Beira, it is a beautiful place, I have been tidying the land for 3 years and doing bits to the house, I have water coming this year and should be permanent from Sept/Oct, I have residency already, just selling the house in the UK and waiting for all the difficult travel stuff to disappear, I am in the wrong place right now and my feelings of resentment for the UK are not healthy for me.
Bom dia.

I have a Portuguese resident permit and tax number, what a lovely country but a shame they are split personalities while driving their cars, the country used to have the highest death rate for road accidents, no wonder when they have five triple expressos a day.
Nice as pie to you when they get out of their car after road rage .
Life is not worth living without a Tango or a Franchesina a day .

One good thing about Portuguese drivers is that they stop at Zebra Crossings as well as - if not better than - UK drivers.

The best move ever that we made was to retire here nearly 8 years ago,the next best move was burning my HGV license and retraining as a mechanical engineer.

6 speed box, brake on the right of drivers seat and wind up windows, definitely not a top spec truck, the tooling could’ve come from anywhere but to me it looked a bit 70’s Merc close up but [emoji2369][emoji2369]

TATA Use old cab tooling from many manufacturers esp Merc, that cab is definitely not a club of 4 though
