New eco services M5 Gloucester

Just seen feature of this new eco service area on T. Apparently established MSA Operators lodged a number of objections. Expect it was mainly Moto who didn’t want to be shown up!
No McDs/Burger King/Costapacket/Megabucks/et al. Just locally sourced food. The telly guys didn’t mention trucks and hinted that it is run by same company that runs Tebay services on M6.
Do they do a full English and welcome truckers? Anyone been here yet?

Took a 45 there last night. It’s a welcome change to the usual msa rubbish, although I do think they may be a bit light on hgv parking compared to most msa’s.

Recent thread about it here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=113418

I haven’t stopped there yet but if it’s anything like Tebay then it will be a welcome addition. There’s always been the need for a services between Strensham & Michaelwood as there’s some distance between the two.

I was there last week, and I was a bit disappointed. Breakfast was ok, but expensive and dried up. Nice sausages, though. No chair or clothes hooks in the shower, and the light is on a motion sensor, so you need to step out of the shower and wave your arms now and then. The shop has a great deli, but it is VERY expensive - £3 for a pork pie. There is also a butchers, which is odd. Most customers are long distance travellers, and wouldn’t want to share their cars with raw meat , especially on a hot day. It’s like the Westmoreland on the M6, not like Tebay truckstop off J38. However, it still FAR better than the rest.

Can’t believe they let them build it with a small truck park though. Christ we only need a patch of hard standing.

they will have built it with the minimum amount of truck spaces too satisfy the planning commitee, lorry drivers aint seen as a vital customer base for them as we only carry one person compared too 73 on some coaches and upto 7 in some cars, everything will be local sorced but will be expensive but taste miles better then ginsters.

I see the ground works have started on the south bound side too

There’s your schedule for minimums p21, There is no maximum.

P18 B26-B28 gives a bit of leeway/specifics etc as in urban areas much of the traffic is commuter traffic not long distance traffic.

B28 gives a negotiating tool as many of the MSA’s are “landlocked”/held to ransom on land price to expand also when they were built the figures used were calculated in the the “old” days under much lower traffic flows at the time.

gov.uk/government/uploads/s … c-road.pdf

You would get your traffic flows from something like this trads.hatris.co.uk/ but you need to get login stuff,
You may be able to buy it from elsewhere like trafficmaster.

Yep. Full English at the cost of £8:75 for a 9 piece breakfast.

Parking is miles away from the building but nice laid out and nice size parking. Of course Moto would object as they charge and treat people like ■■■■. At least at this new service you have a chance for a healthy option. I hope many more are made like this as it will only improve things for the farmers etc with local food being pumped out

Get real, do you think any MSA would provide truck parking unless they had to? The space that one truck with one driver takes can easily accommodate far more cars and paying customers. Most truckers will only buy the bare minimum because of the prices, whereas your holiday-makers and reps are what will keep the MSA open. How many drivers on a 45 would even venture into the MSA building and SPEND SOMETHING - other than a ‘penny’?

Look at the MSAs with large truck parks, if you were your average customer who spends money would you want to stop at them unless absolutely necessary?
