Read loads of other newbie posts in this forum to get a reasonable realistic idea of what to expect as a newbie

Hi
For Theory - get some computer software and keep taking the mock tests. There’s a good iPhone/iPad app too. I was in and out in 12 minutes and got 100%, as I knew the answers backwards and the real thing was easier than the software I practised on.
For HPT, again practise with some software. No-one likes these, remember to click when it gets worse, not when you see it. (yeah it’s mad)
For practical, I suggest going somewhere that will do an assessment and propose the amount of training you need. My biggest regret is that I didn’t. It may save you money by either doing fewer hours training or even if you need a little more training it’s loads cheaper than failing and coming back for a retest.
Where I learned held the view that everyone takes 5 days, test being on 5th day. This was 1-2 so I suppose I got about 18 hours training by the time I’d hung around waiting for others to take tests. I wasn’t ready and failed first test, and had to come back at high expense a month later for a further 2 day course (including test which I passed).
It’s hard to summarise what you learn in the practical training, but basically it comes down to giving yourself time to get it right by approaching things at the right speed and planning well ahead. The ‘right speed’ may be a lot slower than you expect. Best of luck!
Hello, I’m new to this site and so far i’ve found stacks of useful information. I was about to book my HGV training with a company called EasyasHGV but from what I’ve read I’ve decided to steer well clear (phew!).
So I was wondering if anybody could recommend any HGV training centres in north essex or suffolk. I’ve seen one company based in Suffolk called Total Driving and one in essex called Essex Transport Training. I was wondering if anybody has trained with either one of these companies or could anyone recommend a company for my area. It’s a massive step for me and I want to make the right choice.
Thank you and ps sorry for hijacking your thread Iain i’m a bit confused as how you create a new post lol
Thank you th2013 I will be putting some of them tips into action in the next few days

Cheers ROG I have been doing quite a bit of reading the past few weeks

Yes the broker called me and it all sounded really good, but it was only through scanning some of the topics on the forum that I came across an “Advice on Training Centres” and did my homework and didn’t like what I found. Anyway good luck with Richies.
